The A 196 is a Russian trunk road in the Kaliningrad Oblast . It leads from Kaliningrad in a south-easterly direction to the border with Poland . A border crossing point is planned here near Krylowo on the one hand and Perły ( Pearl Forest ) on the other , which will connect the Russian A 196 with the Polish DK 63 and carry traffic on to Węgorzewo and Giżycko .

The total length of the A 196 is 92 kilometers.

The route of today's A 196 is a section of the former German Reichsstraße R 131 , which connected Pillau (today Russian: Baltijsk) in the Samland district with Arys (Polish: Orzysz) in Masuria .
