Ali
Ali [ ʕaliː ] ( Arabic علي, DMG ʿAlī ' the high, sublime') is a male given name of Arabic origin, which is popular with all Islamic schools. In the European Middle Ages, ʿAlī was also Latinized to Hali or Haly .

The popularity of the name Ali among Muslims can be traced back to Ali ibn Abi Talib , a son-in-law and cousin of the founder of the religion, Mohammed . For the Sunnis he is the fourth caliph and for the Shiites and Alevis the first imam .
The name of the Islamic denominations of Alevis and Alawites goes back to him . The Shia is the Shi'at Ali , the "Party of Ali".
