Abdulaziz al-Mandeel (born May 22, 1989 ) is a Kuwaiti hurdler who specializes in the 110-meter distance .

Athletic career

Abdulaziz al-Mandeel gained his first international experience in 2005 when he retired from the youth world championships in Marrakech with 14.40 seconds in the first round and also did not reach the final with the Kuwaiti sprint relay (1000 meters). In 2008 he won the Arab Junior Championships in Radès with a new championship record of 13.78 s and then he finished fourth at the Junior Asian Championships in Jakarta in 13.89 s. He also qualified for the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , where he was eliminated in the semifinals with 13.84 s. The following year he was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at the Indoor Asian Games in Hanoi in 8.31 s and then he reached fifth place in the Arab Championships in Damascus in 14.08 s. In 2011 he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Fawzi al-Shammari at the Arab Championships in al-Ain in 13.79 s and at the Pan-Arab Games in Doha he won the bronze medal behind Saudi Ahmed al-Muwallad and in 13.78 s Othmane Hadj Lazib from Algeria. He was also fourth with the Kuwaiti 4 x 100 meter relay in 41.04 s.

In 2012 he won the silver medal in the 60 m hurdles behind the Chinese Jiang Fan at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou with a new national record of 7.82 s and thus qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul , where he was eliminated in the first round with 7.98 s . The following year he won the silver medal behind the Algerian Lyés Mokodel at the Arab Championships in Doha in 13.72 seconds and also won the silver medal behind the Chinese Jiang in 13.78 seconds at the subsequent Asian Championships in Pune . He then won the Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang in 13.89 s at the same time as the Iraqi Ameer Shakir Aneed . In 2014 he won the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzohu in 7.80 s and then retired from the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 7.74 s in the first round. At the Continental Cup in Marrakech he lasted 13.49 seconds and finished sixth before he could not finish his final run at the Asian Games in Incheon .

In 2015 he won the Arab Championships in Manama in a wind-assisted 13.35 s in the hurdle sprint and in 39.75 s with the Kuwaiti relay. He then won the silver medal behind the Chinese Xie Wenjun at the Asian Championships in Wuhan in 13.67 s . The following year, he defended his title over 60 m hurdles at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha, where he set a new championship and national record with 7.60 s. In 2017 he set a new national record in Kuwait City with 13.39 s and then won the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 13.50 s and thus received a bye for the World Championships in London , in which he was in. 13.63 s the preliminary round was eliminated. In 2018 he won the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran in 7.71 s for the third time in a row over 60 m hurdles and then reached the semi-finals at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , in which he was eliminated with 7.69 s.

In 2009 and 2015 al-Mandeel became Kuwaiti champion in the 110-meter hurdles.
