It masters both the direct and indirect processing of sound material (destructive and non-destructive processing ). Files can be opened or recorded from many different sources and saved in all general formats. With version 6.0, the program is offered as Adobe Audition CC in a monthly individual subscription and as a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud .

history

The program was originally developed by the Syntrillium company under the name Cool Edit in the mid-1990s . In the basic version, audio files were processed destructively due to the lower computing power at the time in order to enable work in real time. In later versions, the non-destructive editing of audio files and multi-channel mixing became possible.

In May 2003, Cool Edit Pro 2.1 was bought by Adobe and incorporated into its own product range and further developed as Adobe Audition.

Adobe Audition

The first version was released on August 18, 2003 and had no noticeable changes in functionality compared to the last release of Cool Edit.

Adobe Audition 1.5

Released in May 2004, the program underwent major changes. Functions such as pitch correction , frequency domain analysis , a project view for CD creation and the basic video editing tools from Adobe Premiere were added, as well as the possibility of integrating files from both programs into the other program.

Adobe Audition 2.0

With Adobe Audition 2.0 a version for the professional user area was published for the first time on January 17th, 2006. Adobe Audition 2.0 was also integrated into the Adobe Production Studio software package , but not delivered together with Adobe Creative Suite 2 , which was released in April 2005 and contained the less powerful Adobe Soundbooth at the time .

The more powerful architecture enables, for example, faster exports or real-time playback of extensive multitrack sessions with more simultaneous tracks and active effects than with 32-bit systems and the associated 3 GB barrier for the RAM would be possible. The internal signal processing is still done in 32 bit floating point numbers with 192 dB dynamic range .

The signal levels are displayed by the level meters in dBFS (digital level with a maximum of 0 dB), while the faders have a scale in dBu ( voltage level with a maximum of 15 dB). In the spectral analysis view, the editor window enables the visual representation of the frequency spectrum over time and offers tools for frequency-selective retouching of background noises. In the view of the spectral pitch display, the frequency spectrum is shown in the area of the musical tone scale .
