Adolf von Michaelis
Adolf Heinrich von Michaelis also Adolf August Albert Karl Wilhelm (born August 2, 1837 in Quatzow ; † May 20, 1898 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .
Life
origin
Adolf was a member of the noble family von Michaelis, who were ennobled in 1787 and who were wealthy on Quatzow in Western Pomerania . His parents were the Prussian lieutenant and heir to Quatzow, Friedrich Ernst von Michaelis (1792-1852), and his wife Eugenie, née von Bonin (1799-1872).
Military career
Michaelis joined the 3rd Dragoons Regiment of the Prussian Army on April 1, 1855, and in April 1858 was promoted to Second Lieutenant . For a short time he worked from July 1860 to mid-December 1861 in the Rhenish Dragoon Regiment No. 5 and then came to the Guard Hussar Regiment in Potsdam . With this regiment he took part in the war against Denmark in 1864 and in the war against Austria in 1866 . As a captain , he led the 2nd squadron in the war against France in 1870/71 in the battles of Gravelotte , Sedan , Hallue , Bapaume and Saint-Quentin as well as in the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class Michaelis received the character as a Major and mid-March 1878, the patent to his rank. On July 10, 1880, he was transferred to the 1st Leib-Hussar Regiment No. 1 as a regular staff officer , before Michaelis was appointed commander of the 2nd Westphalian Hussar Regiment No. 11 on March 26, 1885 . He was promoted to colonel by August 1888 and was given command of the 6th Cavalry Brigade in Brandenburg an der Havel on December 14, 1889 . On April 1, 1890 Michaelis was appointed commander of the newly formed 4th Guards Cavalry Brigade and advanced to major general in the same year . From April 17, 1893, he was employed as a commandant of Spandau . In this position he received the star for the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on the occasion of the Order Festival in 1895, and on January 27, 1895, the character of Lieutenant General. Shortly thereafter, on March 22, 1895, he was put up for disposition with the statutory pension in approval of his resignation request.
family
Michaelis married in 1868 with Adele Dubois de Luchet (1842–1933), daughter of the cloth manufacturer, commercial judge and councilor in Burtscheid , Alexander Dubois de Luchet. The marriage resulted in a daughter, Alexandra (1883-1967) married to Lieutenant General Ivo von Trotha (1876-1957). Michaelis 'sister-in-law Alwine Dubois de Luchet (1848–1928), married in 1873 Bernhard von Gustedt (1845–1917), lieutenant colonel , director of the officers' riding school in Hanover and gentleman on Schakenhof .
