Adrianinho , real name Adriano Manfred Laaber (born July 11, 1980 in Jundiaí ), is a former Brazilian - Austrian soccer player . The offensive player was considered a specialist in set pieces and was equally strong with right and left.

Club career

Adrianinho played in his youth for all football clubs based in Jundiaí . Initially for the Nacional Atlético Clube and Clube Sao João in the hall, before he switched to EC Jundiaiense and started playing grass . From there he was scouted by AA Ponte Preta and came to their football academy.

His pro debut, he celebrated at the age of eighteen years in the Brazilian Serie A . After only three appearances in two seasons, he made his breakthrough as a regular player in 2000 with six goals in 22 league games. In 2001 he was instrumental in the team's third place at the Copa do Brasil , whereupon he first attracted the interest of larger clubs. However, any transfer failed due to the transfer fee that Ponte Preta demanded for his young star. After four seasons in the top third of the league, the club slipped into financial problems, whereupon they had to sell top striker Washington to Turkey to Fenerbahçe Istanbul during the season . Without the player you got into the relegation battle for the first time and could only save yourself in the last round with a 2-0 home win against Fortaleza EC . Despite the transfer income for Washington, the club was no longer liquid in the middle of the season and owed a large part of the team up to 10 monthly salaries.

As a result, the then top performers Rodrigo , Wesley , Mineiro and Adrianinho changed the club free of charge.

In the 2004 season, the move to the big club Corinthians São Paulo followed . The club world champion from 2000 had been trying for a long time to find the filigree technician and promised him a regular place. Adrianinho also began as a regular in the Campeonato Paulista before the club entered into a contract with the international investor group MSI , which was the biggest upheaval in the club's history. MSI exchanged the entire sporting leadership and subsequently brought top players such as the two Argentinians Sebastián Domínguez and Carlos Tévez , Roger from Benfica Lisbon and the newly crowned Champions League winner Carlos Alberto from FC Porto .

At the same time as the upheaval, Adrianinho's time at Corinthians came to an end, who was suddenly on the club's strike list. As a result, he was deported to AD São Caetano without having played a league game . But also with the surprise team of the last seasons overtook him, a similar fate. Brought in by coach Muricy Ramalho as a dream player, he had to leave the club shortly after the transfer, whereupon the new coach Péricles Chamusca announced immediately after his arrival that he was not planning with strikers Borges and Adrianinho and handed them over to Paysandu SC within the league.

At the relegation-threatened provincial club Paysandu, Adrianinho then played again briefly, was used in all seven remaining league games until the end of the season and was considered a decisive factor in relegation. After only four months in the club, he had drawn the interest of larger clubs again, whereupon he tried another attempt at a major club, this time CR Flamengo .

At Flamengo it was hoped that Adrianinho would revive the playful element after two lean years, which had been lost after the departure of Juninho Paulista . He was given the prestigious jersey number 10 and had great expectations of him from the start. However, he was never able to fulfill the imagined role of playmaker and rather presented himself as a foreign body in the game of Flamengo. With the appointment of Celso Roth as a trainer at the end of April 2005, the Flamengo chapter was over again for him.

After he could not prevail again at a big club, he finally had the nimbus of being a failed talent and found a new club with difficulty.

A possible transfer to Austria to SV Salzburg failed because of Red Bull's entry and the associated repositioning of the club. A league move back to Campinas to Guarani FC on the ailing financial situation of the club.

In the summer of 2005 he finally came to the small Vila Nova FC in Série B , before he was awarded to the Greek first division club OFI Crete three months later . After he was only used five times as a substitute until the winter transition period, the loan contract was dissolved again and Adrianinho went back to Vila Nova. This was followed by five more league games in the Série B before he first time in the Série C to Ipatinga FC moved.

After only two months in the third division, the contract was terminated by the club and another move back to Série B to Ceará SC . The transfer turned out to be a stroke of luck for both sides. Adrianinho was able to build on earlier performances for the first time in years and presented himself with seven goals in 16 league games as an absolute top performer of the team. In addition, he was elected to the Team of the Year of Série B at the end of the season .

Already in the following season there was another transfer within the league to the financially better positioned Brasiliense FC , where he was able to prolong the strong performances from the previous season over a longer period of time. After two seasons with 13 goals, there was speculation about a transfer back to the Série A before he tore a cruciate ligament in 2009 and remained convalescent until the end of 2010. For the last two games of the season he announced himself fit again, even scored the decisive goal for the 1: 2 away win against América FC , which, however, could not prevent the team's unfortunate relegation, tied with Vila Nova, as seventeenth in the table. As a result, he remained loyal to Brasiliense in the C series.

National team

After Adrianinho received his citizenship in 2002 due to his Austrian grandparents, his then European manager Slobodan Catic brought him up for discussion at the ÖFB in 2003 . After weeks of media speculation about a convocation, the association then put an official request to Ponte Preta for the friendly international matches against Greece and the Czech Republic to be approved by the then national team coach Hans Krankl . At that time, Krankl had only observed Adrianinho via video study and urged to see him personally in training and games.

Ponte Preta agreed to the release and announced the calling of the player on the club's official website before the ÖFB withdrew the call two days before departure. It was then officially announced that although the Brazilian association had confirmed that Adrianinho was eligible to play for Austria, there were still some ambiguities in the room. However, the player would still be watched. It was only months later that it became known that there were disputes within the association regarding the convening. One trigger was the allegedly penetrative appearance of manager Catic, which disturbed the association. In addition, Krankl had already come under fire for several cadre experiments, such as the calling up of players such as Rolf Martin Landerl , Thomas Höller or Alen Orman . The fact that he now seriously intended to use a player who had never been personally observed represented too great a risk for the ÖFB, whereupon the veto to convene Krankl was issued.

After he could not assert himself at any club for years after leaving Ponte Preta, the national team was considered over before it was brought up again in 2007 by some Austrian media after a strong season for Ceará. Since then, his name has been mentioned again and again as a possible offensive alternative, without a convocation ever becoming concrete.
