The Ailsa Princess was a ferry of British British Transport Ship Management , which in 1971 for the ferry service to Scotland has been put into service. In its almost forty-year lifespan, the ship changed name, owner and area of operation several times before it was scrapped in India in 2010 as the New Cambay Prince .

history

The Ailsa Princess was built under the hull number 272 at Cantiere Navale Breda in Venice and launched on November 28, 1970. After the takeover by British Transport Ship Management on June 22, 1971 and the subsequent transfer trip, the ship was put into service on July 7, 1971 on the route from Stranraer to Larne .

In the years that followed, the Ailsa Princess regularly changed routes , including ports in France . In May 1985 the ship was renamed Earl Harold . After a further four years in service, it was sold to Aktoploiki Maritime based in Piraeus in November 1989 and transferred to Greece as Dimitra in December .

As Express Adonis in Perama, 2005

In 1990, Dimitra, managed by GA Ferries, started the ferry service from Piraeus via Syros to Tinos , Mykonos , Paros , Naxos , Amorgos , Astypalea , Ikaria and Samos . In 1994 the ship went to Agapitos Lines as Naias Express . Another sale to Minoan Flying Dolphins followed in 1999 , before it was used as Express Adonis for Hellas Ferries from 2000 .

The Express Adonis remained in service with Hellas Ferries for four years and was last used between Piraeus, Kythnos , Serifos , Sifnos , Kimolos and Milos before being launched and offered for sale in 2004. Hellenic Seaways became the new owner in January 2005 , but they did not put the ship into service and left it laid up.

In December 2005 the ship was sold to India and renamed the New Caribbean Prince in January 2006 , to be transferred to Mumbai in October 2006 . The New Caribbean Prince was henceforth in service in Indian waters before she was sold for scrapping in April 2010. For this purpose, the ship , which had been renamed New Cambay Prince for transfer , arrived at the Alang demolition yard on May 6, 2010 .
