Albert Alexander von Zimmermann (born January 16, 1813 in Driesen , † December 26, 1887 in Münster ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Albert was the youngest son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Karl von Zimmermann (1775-1830) and his wife Christiane, born von Schaikowski (1779-1853). The family was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on November 15, 1786 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II .

Military career

Zimmermann visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . He then joined the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 13th, 1830 as a portepeef ensign . From there he was transferred to the 9th Infantry Regiment on February 22, 1831 , advanced to Second Lieutenant in mid-November 1831, and on April 14, 1834, with a patent dated August 12, 1831, he was transferred to the 13th Infantry Regiment . On April 13, 1847 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and was from January 1849 to November 1850 as a company commander to the 7th Combined Reserve Battalion and then until the end of January 1851 in the same capacity to III. Battalion in the 13th Landwehr Regiment. This was followed by a use in the 4th Battalion in the 13th Infantry Regiment until mid-May 1851. Zimmermann rose to captain and company commander on June 4, 1852 . After he had been promoted to major in mid-February 1859 , he led the fusilier battalion and was then appointed battalion commander. In this position, on March 17, 1863, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

During the war against Denmark in 1864, Zimmermann took part in the battles near Eckernförde and Missunde , the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen and the transition to Alsen . On March 10, 1864, he received the swords for the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class, for his service . During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War , he was appointed commander of the Cosel Fortress in 1866 under position à la suite of his regiment . On June 8, 1866, Zimmermann was promoted to colonel and on October 23, 1866 , he was transferred to Saarlouis as commandant . Zimmermann married Mathilde von Wittken (1827–1895) on July 8, 1847 in Bromberg . The couple had several children:
