Aleksandrs Semjonovs (born June 8, 1972 in Riga ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player and now - trainer and functionary.
Career
Aleksandrs Semjonovs began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Pardaugava Riga , for whose professional team he first played in the 1991/92 season in the Vysschaya League , the highest Soviet league, and then for three years in its successor, International Hockey -Liga was active. The 1995/96 season spent the center at Hermes Kokkola in the I-divisioona , the second Finnish division. He then played for Vojens IK in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen for two years , before playing for one year each for IF Björklöven from the Swedish Elitserien and Heilbronner EC from the 2nd Bundesliga . For the 2000/01 season he returned to IF Björklöven in the Elitserien, but had to accept relegation to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan with his team . In the middle of the 2001/02 season he moved within the second Swedish division to IFK Arboga IK , for which he was on the ice for the following four years. In the 2003/04 season he also played two games for Elitserien-participant Leksands IF . The 2005/06 season he finished with the Malmö Redhawks in the HockeyAllsvenskan.
The 2006/07 season began Semjonovs at Herning Blue Fox in the AL-Bank Ligaen, but left the team after six games to play for HK tractor Chelyabinsk from the Russian Super League . For HK tractor he scored one goal and four assists in 25 games. The Latvian spent the 2007/08 season again in Denmark, this time with AaB Ishockey . He then played for three years for his former club IFK Arboga IK in Division 1 , the third Swedish division, before ending his active career. He has been the team's general manager since 2010, and has been coaching the club's U18 juniors since the 2011 season.
International
For Latvia , Semjonovs took part in the B World Championships in 1994 , 1995 and 1996 and the A World Championships in 1997 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 and 2007 . He was also in his country's squad at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and 2006 in Turin .
