Alexander von Rosen ( Russian Александр Владимирович Розен Alexander Wladimirowitsch Rosen ; * 7 October July / 18 October  1780 greg. In Ostrogorsk; † 8 August July / 20 August  1833 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Alexander von Rosen was a member of the Estonian Barons von Rosen . His parents were the Russian Lieutenant General Woldemar von Rosen (1742-1790) and his wife Olimpiada Fedorovna, née Raewskaja. The Russian infantry general Georg Andreas von Rosen (1781–1841) was his brother. Alexander von Rosen's marriage to Albertina Countess von Grabowski (1784–1856) in Wartenberg in 1808 resulted in five children, including:

Career

Rosen joined the Imperial Russian Army at a very young age . As early as 1787 he was a sergeant in the Preobrazhensky body guard regiment . In 1794 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1795 was transferred to the Azov infantry regiment as captain . There he rose to major in 1796 . After a further transfer he became Suvorov's adjutant in 1799 , whom he accompanied in this role on the Italian campaign . Here he was able to distinguish himself several times and was honored with the Order of St. Anna II., The Commander's Cross of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and the Order of St. Mauritius and Lazarus .

In 1800 Rosen was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was back in the Preobrazhensky body guard regiment from 1802. After his promotion to colonel and the transfer to a hussar regiment, he took part continuously in the Third Coalition War from 1805 . On October 19, he took part in the battle near Lambach (1805) , then in the meetings in Enns, Amstetten, St. Pölten and finally in the battle of Schöngrabern . In 1806 he was awarded the Order of St. George IV.

In 1806 Rosen became the commander of his hussar regiment. He received the Order of St. Vladimir III. Degree and became head of the Leib-Kürassier-Regiment in 1810 . With this he opposed Napoleon's Russian campaign . He fought the French vanguard with his cuirassiers at Vitebsk, near Smolensk, and took part in the battle of Borodino as part of General Borosdin's 8th Infantry Corps . During this time he received his appointment as major general. In the battle of Tarutino , Maloyaroslavets and Vyazma, near Krasnoye and when crossing the Berezina River, he was at the head of the army with his body cuirassiers. During the Wars of Liberation , he was able to distinguish himself again and received the Order of St. Anne I degree and the Order of the Red Eagle II degree. In autumn 1813 he was at the head of a brigade that liberated Frankfurt am Main . In early 1814, Rosen's brigade crossed the Rhine and fought in the Paris area in March, attacking the suburbs of Montmartre. After the war, Rosen received estates in the Grodno governorate and in 1816 was appointed brigade commander of the 1st brigade of the 3rd Dragoon Division. In 1819 he was granted 3,000 acres of land for perpetual inheritance and he was appointed commander of the 3rd Dragoon Division. Rosen served in the cavalry until 1829 . He was buried in the Tikhvin cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St. Petersburg.
