Alexandre Kantorov

Alexandre Kantorow (born May 20, 1997 in Clermont-Ferrand ) is a French pianist. In 2019 he won first prize and the gold medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition

Life

Alexandre Kantorow grew up in a musical family. His father is the violinist and conductor Jean-Jacques Kantorow . At the age of 5 Kantorow received piano lessons at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Cergy-Pontoise in Val-d'Oise , at the age of 8 he switched to the Music Conservatory of the 10th District in Paris and at the age of eleven also became a student of Pierre-Alain Volondat. He received his education at the Lycée Racine high school in Paris, and he also attended the piano class of Igor Laszko at the Schola Cantorum . After graduating from high school, Kantorow studied at the Paris Conservatory with Frank Braley and Haruko Ueda and completed masterclasses with Jean-Philippe Collard, Georges Pludermacher, Théodore Paraskivesco and Christian Ivaldi. At the École Normale de Musique de Paris he was most recently a pupil of Rena Schereschewskaja .

Kantorow, who decided to become a professional musician only after graduating from high school, won the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in July 2019 after performing Tchaikovsky's 2nd piano concerto and Brahms's 2nd piano concerto in the final round. Kantorow was also honored with the Grand Prix of the overall competition. He is the first French piano winner in the history of the competition.

  • 2016: Scholarship "Assurance des Musiciens et des Métiers de la Musique" at the 30th Concours européen Musiques d'Ensemble with the chamber music ensemble Alda (Alexandre Kontorow piano, Jérémy Garbarg violoncello and Vashka Delnavazi violin)
  • 2019: Nomination in the category Révélation, solo instrumental at the French Victoires de la Musique Classique
  • 2019: Gold medal and Grand Prix at the 16th Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow
