Alfie Michaud (born November 6, 1976 in Selkirk , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was active in various minor leagues as well as in Europe during his career . He achieved his greatest successes between 2009 and 2014 at SønderjyskE Ishockey from the Danish Metal Ligaen , with whom he was three times Danish champion and Danish cup winner .
Career
Alfie Michaud began his career as a hockey player with the Lebret Eagles, for which he was active from 1993 to 1996 in the Canadian Junior League Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . He then attended the University of Maine for three years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , whose championship he won with his team in 1999. In the 1999/2000 season , the goalie made his professional ice hockey debut for the Syracuse Crunch from the American Hockey League . He also played two games for the Vancouver Canucks from the National Hockey League in the same season . For the 2000/01 season he moved to the Kansas City Blades from the International Hockey League , before he spent the following season with the Manitoba Moose from the AHL, while he played parallel for the Reading Royals in the ECHL .
The season 2002/03 started Michaud at Tappara Tampere in the Finnish SM-liiga . In his four missions he was unable to convince with an average of 4.12 goals per game and a catch rate of 83.8 percent, which is why he was loaned out to Ahmat Hyvinkää from the Mestis , the second Finnish division, for five games . There he played very well with an average of 1.18 goals per game and a catch rate of 96.0 percent. For the entire rest of the season he moved to the Peoria Rivermen from the ECHL, where he immediately became a regular goalkeeper. At the end of the season he was named ECHL Goaltender of the Year and elected to the league's first All-Star Team. He then joined the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League for the 2003/04 season , where he also drew attention to himself with strong performances. From 2004 to 2006 he ran again in the ECHL - first for his ex-team Peoria Rivermen and then for the Utah Grizzlies . In the 2004/05 season he also played two games for the Worcester IceCats in the AHL.
From 2006 to 2009 Michaud was on the ice at REV Bremerhaven in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . He was then committed by SønderjyskE Ishockey from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen , with whom he won the Danish championship title and the Danish cup competition straight away in the 2009/10 season . In the following season , the Canadian reached third place with his team in the league, while he was able to prevail again with the team in the national cup competition. He also took part in the IIHF Continental Cup with SønderjyskE Ishockey on a European level . In Denmark he was one of the best goalkeepers this season and had the lowest goals against goals against and the best catch quota of the AL-Bank Ligaen in the first half of the season. In addition, he was voted best player in the league in September and October.
In 2013 and 2014 two more championship titles followed with SønderjyskE, before Michaud declared his career over in May 2014.
