The Amilcar Type CGSS ( Amilcar CGSS for short ) was a passenger car of the French brand Amilcar . The CGSS stood for Chassis Grand Sport Surbaissé . Surbaissé means lower.

description

The vehicle was presented in June 1926 and replaced the Amilcar Type CGS . It was designed to be even sportier.

The four-cylinder engine mainly used corresponded to the previous model except for a slightly modified camshaft . It had 60 mm bore , 95 mm stroke , 1074 cm³ displacement , 7  Cheval fiscal and 33  HP engine power. From February 1929 a larger Amilcar Type M 2 engine with 60 mm bore, 110 mm stroke and 1244 cm³ displacement was also in the price lists. It remains unclear whether this was a mistake in the price list or whether the vehicles from the last year of production actually received this engine.

The chassis was designed lower. In addition, the wheelbase was shortened to 2323 mm, while the track width remained the same at 1090 mm. The curb weight was given as 550 kg. A differential gear was only available from 1928 . The steering corresponded to the Amilcar Type G .

Many vehicles were bodied as roadsters . They had small steering front fenders . Initially, the structure was without doors and windshield, while the two seats were arranged slightly offset. Later two doors and a windshield were available and the seats next to each other. The bodywork company Carrosserie Charles Duval produced the bodies. It also offered a coupe . A coupé from Brichet from Geneva has also come down to us.

The engines were given the numbers from 41,001 to 41,985, which suggests 985 vehicles. However, an overlap with type CGS is possible. The numbers 41,926 to 41,985 have been handed down for the last year of production in 1929.
