The Amilcar Type CO ( Amilcar CO for short ) was a racing car from the French brand Amilcar . CO stood for course , i.e. car racing.

description

Amilcar produced the racing car in different versions from 1925. Initially it was planned as a two-seater. From 1925 the mechanic on board was no longer available, so that all vehicles were monopostos .

First there was normal CO , also called CO long . Its wheelbase was 2235 mm. The wheelbase of the CO short was shortened to 2160 mm. The driver sat on the right.

The 1926 CO experimental was designed for record drives over short distances. The body was aerodynamically shaped. The driver sat in the middle of the vehicle. Front brakes were omitted.

The CO offset was available from May 1927 . The engine and transmission were offset nine centimeters to the left. The driver sat on the right again. In this way, the cardan shaft could run from the front engine to the rear axle next to the seat.

All vehicles had a six-cylinder in - line engine with DOHC valve control . At first it had 55 mm bore , 77 mm stroke and 1098 cm³ displacement . It made 90  hp with a Roots blower . The cylinder head was tight. A further development led to a 56 mm bore, 74 mm stroke and 1094 cm³ displacement. The reduced stroke should enable higher speeds. The engine output was initially given as 105 HP and later with 107 HP. The cylinder head was now removable. A third variant had a 57 mm bore, 83 mm stroke and 1271 cm³ displacement. But it was only available in CO offset .

Two or three vehicles were built from the normal CO and one to three vehicles from the CO short , a total of three to five. There is no longer a complete vehicle, but two vehicles with engines from the Amilcar Type C 6 . The CO experimental remained a unique piece that was quickly dismantled. Three or four vehicles were produced by the CO offset , one of them with the larger engine. Two complete vehicles with type C 6 engines and one incomplete still exist.

The Amilcar Type MCO followed in 1928 .
