The Amilcar Compound was the last passenger car from the French brand Amilcar .

description

Hotchkiss et Cie had taken over Amilcar. The goal was to market a smaller, front-wheel drive model without jeopardizing the reputation of its own brand's vehicles. Jean-Albert Grégoire designed the vehicle.

The prototype was presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1937 . It still had a weak four-cylinder engine from older Amilcar times. It is referred to as 5 CV , which suggests that it was the engine from the Amilcar Type C 5 . There it had 59 mm bore , 95 mm stroke , 930 cm³ displacement and 22  hp .

Series production began in April 1938. The state licensing authority granted the license on May 3, 1938. Now a copy of the Hillman Minx engine was used in the Type B 38 . It had 63 mm bore, 95 mm stroke, 1185 cm³ displacement and was classified with 7  Cheval fiscal . One source cites 33  hp . Another source gives 33 to 38 hp. The price was about 50% higher than the price for a Citroën Traction Avant .

In July 1939 an engine with OHV valve control was added. The engine called Type B 67 had a 67 mm bore, which was also reflected in the name, also 95 mm stroke, 1340 cm³ displacement and 8 CV. The engine developed 45 hp. But only 20 of these were made.

One source states that there were two wheelbases of 250 cm and 265 cm to choose from. A two-door sedan , a two-door convertible sedan and a roadster have been handed down as body versions.

In September 1939 the production of the passenger car ended. Less than 900 vehicles were built. The target of 2500 vehicles per year was thus clearly missed.

From October 1940 to 1942 a few box vans and ambulances were still produced.

Outside France, this model was marketed as the Hotchkiss Compound .

Auction results

In 2016, Osenat auctioned a 1939 Roadster for 16,800 euros .

Coys offered a blue sedan with the British license plate FLL 4 several times in 2019 . In January there was an expectation of 12,000 euros , but no traditional price, although the vehicle was offered as a no reserve , meaning that any price would have been accepted. For February 2019, £ 9,000 is quoted . On April 2, 2019, £ 5,625 was achieved in London . On April 13, 2019, the highest bid during the Techno-Classica auction was 9,000 euros. It is unclear whether this vehicle was actually auctioned.
