Amphoe Mueang Si Sa Ket ( Thai : อำเภอ เมือง ศรีสะเกษ ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Si Sa Ket . The province of Si Sa Ket is located in the south of the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

geography

Neighboring counties (clockwise from north): the district of Yang Chum Noi , Kanthararom , Nam Kliang , Phayu , Wang Hin , Uthumphon Phisai and Rasi Salai . All Amphoe are in Si Sa Ket Province.

history

The district was renamed in 1913 from Klang Si Sa Ket ( กลาง ศี ร์ ษะ เก ษ ) to Mueang Si Sa Ket. In 1917 the "Mueang" was removed from the name, but this was reversed in 1938.

education

The Si Sa Ket Rajabhat University is located in this district .

Culture

The exceptionally designed Phra That Rueang Rong temple is located about 8 kilometers northwest of the city of Si Sa Ket. It houses a museum about the culture and traditions of the indigenous peoples.
