Amphoe Khukhan (in Thai อำเภอ ขุขันธ์ ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Si Sa Ket . The province of Si Sa Ket is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .
geography
Khukhan District borders the following districts (from north clockwise) to the Amphoe Prang Ku , Wang Hin , Phrai Bueng , Khun Han and Phu Sing in the province of Si Sa Ket, and to the Amphoe Buachet and Sangkha the province of Surin .
Before Thailand was reorganized around 1945 for administrative and logistical reasons, Khukhan was the capital of the province. Even today it is considered to be the historical center of Si Sa Ket. In addition, Khukhan is the second largest district in the province in terms of population. Another indication of its former importance is the fact that numerous roads connect Khukhan directly with all important places in the province.

Local administration
There are two municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- Si Sa-at (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ศรี สะอาด ), consisting of the whole tambon Si Sa-at.
- Mueang Khukhan (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมือง ขุขันธ์ ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Huai Nuea.
