The Rasi-Salai Dam

Amphoe Rasi Salai ( Thai : อำเภอ ราษีไศล ) (also Rasisalai ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of the province of Si Sa Ket . The province of Si Sa Ket is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Rasi Salai is about 39 kilometers from the provincial capital.

The neighboring districts are (clockwise from north): Phanom Phrai district of Roi Et province , Sila Lat district of Si Sa Ket province, Maha Chana Chai and Kho Wang district of Yasothon province , Yang Chum Noi district , Mueang Si Sa Ket , Uthumphon Phisai and Bueng Bun in Si Sa Ket and Amphoe Rattanaburi in the province of Surin .

history

The district was renamed from Khong to Rasi Salai in 1939 .

Climate / nature

During the hot season (April - June), Rasi Salai has dry and hot weather. During the winter it is cool. Precipitation falls irregularly during the rainy season. For some years they do not exist at all, which leads to periods of drought. In other years there is so much rain that the areas used for agriculture can be expected to flood. Agriculturally, the soil is mostly used for growing rice. As a result, many forests were lost in the past. In addition, there are many areas where the soil cannot be used for agriculture because it is too sandy and dry. The total area is 171,050 Rai .

The Mae Nam Mun (Mun River) , the largest river in this area, flows through Rasi Salai . It was affected by a smaller dam in Rasi Salai and a large dam in Ubon Ratchathani Province in the 1990s, and has since lost much of its biodiversity. During the dry seasons, the river regularly dries up almost completely.

population

In 1997 the population was around 76,515, which had increased to 85,666 by 2005. Of these, 43,008 residents are male and 42,658 are female. The income per head of the population is 8,000 baht / year.

Most of the residents of Rasi Salai work in agriculture. They cultivate rice fields, plant onions, garlic and chilli, as well as some types of fruit and vegetables. In addition, they earn their living as workers in all kinds of service industries.

Many young people migrate to the larger cities of the country for their training or to work. Above all, old residents remain, as well as children and young people who are looked after by their grandparents at home while their parents work in the larger cities.

98% profess Buddhism . There are also believers of Islam and Catholic Christianity.

Rasi Salai has 59 schools and 5 further education institutions. 8 of the 59 schools are secondary schools. There is a private school to which a vocational training center is linked. There is a public library and 106 public newspaper reading points in the Rasi Salai district.

health care

In Rasi Salai there is a hospital with a bed capacity of 90 beds, which can be increased to 120 beds in an emergency. In addition, there are three large health service points and eleven general health service points (PCU = Primary Care Unit). There is a health center for education and disease prevention in the hospital area. In addition, four doctors at the hospital operated their own private practices in 2006. Rasi Salai has 5 pharmacies. Between 2005 and 2006, the number of general practitioners practicing in Rasi Salai was seven to eight, mainly in the Rasi Salai District Hospital. There are still no permanent general practitioners or specialists in the health service centers.

The most common diseases between 2004 and 2005 include heart disease, cancer of all types, and kidney disease. In addition, patients with dengue fever often come to health institutions. The number of accidents caused by traffic and transport at that time was 37.

Local administration

There are three municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

  • Bua Hung (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บัว หุ่ ง ) consists of the whole tambon Bua Hung.
  • Som Poi (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ส้มป่อย ) consists of the whole Tambon Som Poi.
  • Mueang Khong (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมือง คง ) consists of parts of the tambon of the same name .
