Office Hamm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hamm office was a lower administrative unit in the city of Hamm and the affiliated parishes until 1753 . After that, the county constitution was introduced in the county of Mark as part of an administrative reform .

description

The exact founding date of the Hamm office is no longer known today. However, the Hamm office must have been brought into being shortly after the city was founded in 1226. A bailiff is known by name as early as 1249. In addition, one of its predecessors has been named. However, this cannot be assigned to a specific year. The bailiff, who in the Middle Ages was also called Gogreve (Gaugraf) and since the 16th century mostly Drost or Droste, was the head of the office. According to a certificate of appointment from July 24, 1445 it was up to him not to make any feuds in the office without the orders and will of the sovereign. In particular, he should encircle, protect, defend the office and faithfully guard and uphold the sovereign rights, also in the office everyone should receive justice and justice after finding the judges and the court. A rentmaster and a judge were assigned to the bailiff. He was also responsible for monitoring the traffic. For example, he had to ensure that import and export bans on goods were observed. The rural population was not allowed to offer or buy goods and services outside the city of Hamm. In this way it was ensured that a sufficiently large population capable of fighting settled there to negotiate and defend the sovereign festivals . For this purpose, but also to protect the population from raids, the Hamm office was surrounded by a Landwehr . After this Landwehr, which was also known as the Landfeste , the Hamm office was also called the Fest or Vest , or, because it also included a judicial district, the Hamm court .
