Ana Jelušić [ ˈana ˈjɛluʃitɕ ] (born December 28, 1986 in Rijeka ) is a former Croatian ski racer . For several years she was one of the best slalom runners in the World Cup . She also started in giant slalom , but was less successful in this discipline. In addition to two medals at junior world championships , Jelušić reached two podiums in the world cup and three top 10 placements at world championships .
biography
Jelušić celebrated his first international successes in 2001 with victories in the slalom of the Trofeo Topolino and the Whistler Cup . After a few starts in FIS races from December of the same year, the then 15-year-old started in February 2002 as the youngest participant in the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . She was 23rd in slalom and 37th in giant slalom. From next winter Jelušić also started in the World Cup . On her debut on October 26, 2002 in the giant slalom on the Rettenbachferner in Sölden , she immediately won World Cup points with 23rd place. At the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz Jelušić was 24th in slalom and 28th in giant slalom. Three weeks later she won the silver medal in slalom at the Junior World Championships .
After Jelušić had reached first top 20 results in the World Cup in winter 2003/04, she surprised at the beginning of the 2004/05 season with fifth place in the slalom of Aspen . She achieved another top 10 result in January 2005 with ninth place in the Zagreb slalom . She also reached ninth place in the slalom of the 2005 World Championships in Santa Caterina . At the Junior World Championships in Bardonecchia in 2005 , she won the bronze medal in this discipline. Jelušić achieved 15th slalom rank at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , in the giant slalom she was eliminated in the second round. In the World Cup she achieved two top 10 results in slalom in the 2005/06 season, as in the previous year. In addition to numerous giant slaloms, in which she never came close to her slalom results and mostly did not qualify for the second round of the top 30, she took part in a super combined in the World Cup for the only time in Kvitfjell in March 2006 . She finished in 31st place.
The winter of 2006/07 turned out to be Jelušić's most successful season . After finishing fourth twice in the slalom of Levi and Semmering , she achieved her first podium and at the same time her best World Cup result in the slalom of Zagreb on January 4, 2007 with second place behind Marlies Schild . With another two fifth places in Kranjska Gora and in the Sierra Nevada , she finished seventh in the Slalom World Cup. At the 2007 World Championships in Åre she missed the medal ranks by 34 hundredths of a second, finishing fourth in the slalom, despite the best time in the second run. Jelušić's results in the next three years were only slightly worse. On November 25, 2007, she was third in the Panorama slalom on the podium for the second time, and further top 10 results followed. She narrowly missed a place among the top ten in the Slalom World Cup in the 2007/08 (11th), 2008/09 (12th) and 2009/10 (13th) seasons . At the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère , she reached seventh and twelfth place in the slalom at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .
In the 2010/11 season , Jelušić could no longer keep up with the absolute top of the world. Although she was still among the fastest 20 in three slaloms, including an eleventh place in Zagreb, she fell back to 25th place in the Slalom World Cup. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she was 17th in the slalom. In April 2011, Jelušić announced that she would not take part in any competitions in the winter of 2011/12 due to persistent asthma problems. After a one-year break from racing, she announced her retirement from active ski racing in April 2012.
