The Andinet was a cargo ship of the Ethiopian Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services.

The ship was built under the hull number 306 at the Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani shipyard in Marghera and delivered in April 1985.

description

The propulsion of the ship was carried out by a four-stroke - diesel engine manufacturer's Grandi Motori Trieste (type: 4RTA58) with 6,145  kW power . Three diesel generators, each with an output of 670 kW, were available for the power supply.

The deckhouse was in the rear of the ship. There were four holds in front of the deckhouse . Between rooms 1 and 2, 2 and 3 as well as 3 and 4, there was a double crane each amidships, which was placed on a common foundation. The cranes could each operate independently of one another in the cargo hold in front of or behind the crane or work on the port or starboard side. Another crane was behind the deckhouse.

The holds held 20,842 m³ of bulk goods and 17,701 m³ of general cargo. The container capacity of the vessel was 367  TEUs .

history

The ship was used by the Ethiopian Shipping Line, among other things, in their liner service between the northern continent and Ethiopia.

In 2015 the ship was scrapped.

Incidents

On December 21, 2003, part of the deck cargo went overboard in heavy seas off the Dutch island of Vlieland . In total, the ship lost three containers, each containing 221 barrels of the pesticide arsenic pentoxide , as well as a further 63 barrels of the pesticide that had fallen from damaged containers. The ship was on its way to Bremen . It called at the port on the night of December 24, 2003. There, damaged barrels were unloaded, overturned containers were put back up and the deck was cleaned of spilled pesticides.

The containers that went overboard were recovered in January 2004 using a floating crane . The barrels that had gone overboard were searched for with the help of the Dutch Navy . However, the search was unsuccessful and was discontinued at the end of February 2004.

The ship has been attacked several times by Somali pirates : On November 17, 2008, it was attacked on the way to Djibouti . The on- board helicopter was dispatched from the frigate Karlsruhe , which was in the sea area after a mission in the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 , and the pirates fled when it arrived. On 26 January 2011, the ship was in the Arabian Sea about 490  nautical miles east of the front of the Horn of Africa located, Yemeni island of Socotra attacked. Armed security forces on board the ship fended off the attack. On July 22, 2011, the ship was attacked in the Gulf of Aden around 100 nautical miles southwest of Mukalla in Yemen. This time the attack was foiled by a nearby warship. Another attack on the ship occurred on March 23, 2012 in the Arabian Sea around 220 nautical miles east of the city ​​of Sur in Oman . This time, too, the attack was repulsed by armed security forces on board.
