Andres Oper (born November 7, 1977 in Tallinn ) is a former Estonian football player . With 38 goals in 134 international matches, Opera is the record scorer for the Estonian national team .

Career

Early positions in Estonia and Denmark

In 1987 Andres Oper started his career in the youth of FC LSMK / Pantrid Tallinn . There he played until 1994, then he went to the youth division of JK Pärnu Tervis and moved to FC Flora Tallinn that same year . In Tallinn he signed his first professional contract that same year. When he was 21 years old, Arsenal wanted to lure him into the Premier League , but he never moved to London . After he only had short assignments in the first few years, he was loaned out to his then youth club JK Pärnu Tervis in 1996. After nine appearances and three goals, he returned to Tallinn and then fought for a regular place. At Flora Tallinn he won the Meistriliiga in 1994/95, 1997/98 and 1998, 1995/96 and 1996/97 he was runner-up with his team. In addition, there are two national cup successes in 1995 and 1998, as well as the 1998 Supercup and a final one year later. In 1999 he was named Estonian Footballer of the Year .

On July 2, 1999, he moved for the equivalent of one million US dollars in the Superliga to the Danish club Aalborg BK , where he signed a five-year contract. Together with his national team colleague Indrek Zelinski a successful time, which he crowned with a final participation, but not a final victory in the country cup gymnastics , the Danish Cup in 2000. In 2001 he was awarded the Journalism Prize for the best Estonian footballer. A year later he won the Estonian Footballer of the Year election for the second time . In the four years he played 117 games in which he scored 27 goals.

Promotion in Moscow and Kerkrade

On July 10, 2003 he signed a two-year contract with the Russian club Torpedo Moscow . After several injuries to his right foot, his contract was not extended by the club. Opera played 53 games and scored eight goals. He then moved to the Dutch club Roda Kerkrade in late August 2005 , where he signed a one-year contract. Previously, a possible move to England to Sunderland AFC failed. He scored his first goal in the Eredivisie on October 1 in a 3-2 victory over Vitesse Arnhem . This year he won the Estonian Footballer of the Year election for the third time, as well as the journalism award for the best Estonian footballer. On May 28, 2006, he extended his contract to June 30, 2008. In his second season, he scored 19 goals, becoming the club's top scorer. In 2008 he reached the final of the KNVB Cup , which Roda Kerkrade, however, lost 2-0 to Feyenoord Rotterdam . Despite an ongoing contract, he extended his contract again in May 2007, this time until June 30, 2009.

Change to the Far East and the stations afterwards

After his contract expired, he was hired by Shanghai Shenhua in the People's Republic of China , where he signed a six-month contract. After his debut in August 2009 in an away game against Jiangsu Sainty , he injured himself against Beijing Guoan on September 12, and his contract expired after six games and no goal. After a less than successful time in China, he signed a six-month contract with ADO Den Haag in January 2010 , with an option for an additional year. He made his debut on February 13th against Willem II Tilburg , on April 18th he scored his first goal for The Hague in a 4-0 win against RKC Waalwijk . He insisted on the contract option, but made further demands, so that ADO Den Haag broke off the negotiations and so his contract expired in summer 2010.

On September 9th he signed a one-year contract with the Cypriot club AEK Larnaka . In his first game against Ethnikos Achnas , scored his first goal. After being out of a club for a short time after his station in The Hague, he only stayed with Larnaka until the summer of the following year, as his contract was no longer renewed, and was then without a club for around six months. In Cyprus, he finally joined the Nea Salamis Famagusta association in winter 2011/12 . He worked for the Cypriots until the summer of 2013 before ending his active career.

National team

At the age of 17 he played his first international match against Latvia at the 1995 Baltic Cup . He had to wait until June 8, 1997 for his first international goal, which he scored against Sweden as part of the 1998 World Cup qualification . On September 2, 2006, he played his 100th international match against Israel . With 38 goals in 131 international matches, Opera is the record scorer for the Estonian national team and the only Baltic player to have scored more than 30 international goals.
