Andreas Marneros

Andreas Marneros (born October 22, 1946 in Germasoja, Cyprus ) is a German psychiatrist of Cypriot origin and emeritus professor of psychiatry , psychotherapy and neurology . Most recently until 2012 he was professor and director of the clinic for psychiatry , psychotherapy and psychosomatics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU).

Life

Andreas Marneros finished primary school in 1958 with the grade "Excellent". From 1958 to 1964 Andreas Marneros was a student at the Humanistic High School in Limassol , Cyprus, where he graduated from high school in 1964.

From 1964 to 1972 Andreas Marneros studied medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki , Greece , where he graduated in 1972 with the grade "Excellent".

Andreas Marneros then went to Germany, where he worked from 1973 to 1979 as a research assistant at the Neuro-Psychiatric Clinic at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU).

Immediately after fulfilling the requirements, namely four years of successful medical practice in the Federal Republic of Germany, Andreas Marneros received his doctorate in 1977 at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz with the grade “ magna cum laude ”. The topic of his dissertation was psychopathology of incipient brain atrophy .

In 1978 he was certified as a neurologist, who was converted into a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy in 1994 . In 1984 Andreas Marneros received the additional title "Psychotherapy" and in 2006 the additional title " Forensic Psychiatry ".

Andreas Marneros then completed his habilitation in 1980 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne and was awarded the license to teach psychiatry, psychotherapy and neurology. He chose the structure and dynamics of organic brain melancholy as the subject of his habilitation thesis .

From 1980 to 1983 Andreas Marneros worked as a private lecturer (PD) at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Cologne, and from 1983 to 1985 as Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the same university.

From 1985 to 1992 he was appointed professor for medical psychology and general psychopathology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

After all, Andreas Marneros was professor and director of the Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg for almost twenty years from summer 1992 to January 2012.

More than 500 guests took part in his academic farewell lecture on January 26, 2012 (published under "Télos kai arché. The last lecture. Cologne: ANA Publishers, 2012). Among them were numerous representatives of the judiciary, because Andreas Marneros also acted beyond the borders of Saxony-Anhalt , for a long time as a court expert.

A ward of the Psychiatric University Clinic of the MLU now bears his name as a “farewell gift” from his employees.

In 2012, Andreas Marneros' autobiography Das Doppelherz des Odysseus was published in the first edition, with the subtitle A pathetic declaration of love to Germany . In 2013 the second edition came onto the market.

Since his retirement he has published books that move in the border area between Greek mythology and psychiatry / psychology.

Research priorities

Andreas Marneros' research focuses on persistent delusional disorders, acute transient psychotic disorders, and schizophrenic , schizoaffective, and affective disorders . The work in the latter two areas was each awarded a research prize. Another research and publication focus is forensic psychiatry .

Andreas Marneros has published around 600 publications over the years, including 44 books.
