Andreas Wilhelm (born February 3, 1947 in Hainsberg ) is a German conductor and pianist .

Live and act

Andreas Wilhelm received his first musical education at home. The mother worked as a concert singer, the father took the first piano lessons. He was trained from 1965 to 1970 in Rudolf Neuhaus' master class at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . With the subject of his diploma thesis "The early ballets of Igor Stravinsky ( The Firebird , Petrushka , Le Sacre du Printemps )" he passed his state examination with distinction. Just one year later, in 1971, he was conducting his first opera at the Dresden State Opera in The School of Women by Rolf Liebermann . This was followed by Bastien und Bastienne , The Impresario , The Merry Wives of Windsor , The Bartered Bride , Hansel and Gretel , Madame Butterfly , Swan Lake and The Kluge (see opera and concert repertoire). In 1971, Wilhelm began to teach accompaniment at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden, which he held with a few interruptions until 1995. From 1970 to 1972 he gained professional experience as a pianist and harpsichordist in the orchestra of Kurt Masur with the Dresden Philharmonic . From 1974 he was Kapellmeister at the Brandenburger Theater I. and from 1978 musical director. In 1984, Hans-Joachim Hoffmann , Minister for Culture of the GDR , appointed Andreas Wilhelm music director . In 1986 he became chief conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra and musical director of the Kleist Theater in Frankfurt (Oder) . First guest conductors, Hoffmanns Erzählungen and Die Kluge , took him to the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin in 1990 . In the early 1990s he conducted concerts with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra , the Philharmonic Orchestra Frankfurt / Main, the Karlsruhe Chamber Orchestra and others. In addition to his conducting activities, Andreas Wilhelm performs as a pianist in chamber music (piano trio, chamber music evenings with various ensembles, song evenings). Wilhelm's special commitment in the years from 2008 to 2016 was the recording of all works for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach for a CD edition. He lives in Berlin .
