Andries Cloete

Andries Cloete (* in South Africa ) is a South African opera singer who specializes in tenor voices and is a trained doctor. He has lived and worked in Switzerland since 2006.

Life

After his school career, Andries Cloete completed a medical degree at the University of Stellenbosch . He initially practiced as a doctor in South Africa and Great Britain while at the same time devoting himself to his musical training. In 2001 he was engaged as a permanent member of the Graz Opera House , in 2006 he moved to the Konzert Theater Bern in Switzerland. Guest engagements have taken him to the Vienna Chamber Opera , Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Seville, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music , the Munich Biennale (with Till Wyler von Ballmoos and Tassilo Tesche ) and the Aldeburgh Festival . He worked with Calixto Bieito , Joachim Schlömer , Attilio Cremonesi and Elmar Goerden , among others .

Recordings

At the Innsbruck Festival 2004, Andries Cloete sang under the direction of Attilio Cremonesi in the opera "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" by Antonio Sartorio . A live recording of this performance was published in 2005 by ORF for its Edition Alte Musik and in 2006 was awarded a Diapason d'or as a “découverte” (discovery) by the French music magazine Diapason .
