On a Thursday in May 1969, the young engineer Möllenthin drove from Wichelsbach to Berlin to find colleagues for a new project in the partner company there. After an initial meeting with the director of the plant, Dr. Schliemann, he was first sent to a production facility with assembly line workers under the direction of foreman Kunter in order to get to know the production conditions there. Here Möllenthin meets Rita Kowalski, who is late for work that morning because she overslept. On the grounds that she doesn't want to lose any more time, she immediately changes at work, which is a topic of conversation in the company for weeks.

During the lunch break, Möllenthin meets again with the plant director and some of his close employees. It turns out that the Berlin company is not really interested in a cooperation and the question arises as to why the Wichelsbachers don't build a new workshop themselves in order to be able to do the planned work. Without achieving any real success, Möllenthin decides to go home again. In the hotel, he thought it over yet again different and makes phone for the next day an appointment with the party secretary of the SED in the Berlin operation firmly. Before he keeps this appointment, he goes back to the assembly line from the previous day and makes an appointment with Rita Kowalski for lunch. On Sunday Möllenthin and Rita, who is in the company of a four-year-old girl and who will soon take a seat on his shoulders, meet in the Tierpark Berlin . They have a very nice day and Rita says that she wants to become a history teacher. She also begins to talk about her child's father on her own initiative. He inspired her with his technical drawings, studied machine tool construction and one day went to an institute in Karl-Marx-Stadt . After a camping holiday together, it turned out that a child can no longer be avoided. Rita drives to the institute to bring him the good news and sees her boyfriend leaving the house with a blonde girl, tightly embraced. She immediately discovers the engagement rings and the blonde left the two of them alone under the pretext of going out for dinner. Rita explained to her former boyfriend how happy she is now to see him tied, because now it is no longer difficult for her to tell him that she wants to part with him. They went to bed again together and Rita has not seen him for over four years. He doesn't know anything about the child.

After Möllentin has brought Rita home with her daughter, he goes back to his hotel, drinks three bottles of beer and falls asleep. There is a knock at the door and he is called to the front desk to answer the phone. It is his boss from Wichelsbach who asks about the state of affairs. When he got back to the room, he decided to go back to Wichelsbach first in order to thoroughly reconsider the entire operational situation. Then he writes a letter to Rita Kowalski in which he asks her to stay with him with her daughter and goes to bed because the night is over at four o'clock. Suddenly there is another knock at the door, it's Rita who wants to spend the night with him.

Anlauf was shot as a black and white film and had its premiere on January 31, 1971 in the 1st program of the DFF . The dramaturgy of the film was in the hands of Heinz Nahke and the scenario was developed by Benito Wogatzki . The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the conductor Thomas Sanderling played in picture and sound . The outdoor shots were made in Berlin on the Adlergestell , Alexanderplatz and in the zoo .

On December 3, 1976, the film was re-broadcast on the first program of East German television under the new title Rita . Reasons for changing the title and shortening it to 60 minutes are not known.
