Dieter Franke (born October 13, 1934 in Harthau ; † October 23, 1982 in Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

The son of a set designer began his work at the theater in Greiz , where he worked as a prop master and extra . He attended the State Drama School in Berlin from 1954 to 1958 and then received an engagement at the Municipal Theater in Karl-Marx-Stadt .

In 1963 he came to Berlin at the Volksbühne and since 1964 has been a member of the Deutsche Theater ensemble . Franke developed into a striking stage actor here. He embodied weighty figures like Charlemagne in The Dragon , Mephisto in Faust , the Elector in Prince Friedrich von Homburg or the village judge Adam in The Broken Jug .

From 1963 Dieter Franke also provided samples of his art of metamorphosis in film and television. In numerous roles, he was able to perform both demonic and comical characters (Teufel in Werreiss denn Gleich vor'm Teufel aus , 1977, title role in Gevatter Tod 1980, TV) as well as characters taken from everyday life (ambulance driver Adam Kowalski in My Dear Robinson , 1971, Brigadier Kotbuß in Dach überm Kopf , 1980).

Dieter Franke, who had been suffering from a serious illness for a long time without showing it, had to retire in 1982 from filming the film Automärchen , in which he was to play the leading role. Soon afterwards he died and was buried in the French cemetery in Berlin.
