Anton Bassermann
Anton Bassermann (born October 18, 1821 in Mannheim ; † September 22, 1897 ibid ) was a German lawyer in the Grand Duchy of Baden . He was President of the Mannheim Regional Court and sat in the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly .
Life
family
Anton came from the old Bassermann family, which had been based in Mannheim for a long time and provided numerous entrepreneurs and politicians. His father was the Mannheim businessman and liberal politician Johann Ludwig Bassermann (1771–1828). In 1819 he was elected to the Baden Estates Assembly. Johann Ludwig married Susanna Elisabetha Frohn (born February 4, 1782 in Mannheim, † April 19, 1869 in Mannheim). The couple had two daughters and six sons. Anton was the youngest child. His cousin, the entrepreneur Friedrich Daniel Bassermann (1811–1855), was also a member of the Baden state parliament.
Professional background
Bassermann attended the Lyceum in Mannheim and studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1841 to 1845 . In 1842 he became active in the Corps Palatia Heidelberg (III). In 1848 he joined the Baden judicial service as a legal intern. In 1854 he became a trainee lawyer and in 1856 received his first job as an official assessor at the Heidelberg Oberamt . In 1857 he was appointed magistrate in Philippsburg and as such he was transferred to Rastatt in 1859 . In 1864 he was promoted to the district judge in Offenburg , in 1869 to the district court director in Villingen and in 1872 to the presiding council at the district and court court in Mannheim . In 1874 he received the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion for his services .
In 1877 Bassermann was elected for the first time as a member of the second chamber of the Baden assembly of estates in the 28th ordinary state parliament. The voters of the 14th electoral district, which included the Villingen office with parts of the Neustadt office, expressed their confidence in Bassermann, who was a member of the National Liberal Party . He was also elected in the next, the 29th Landtag from 1879 to 1880. In the state parliament, the practicing lawyer worked actively as a reporter on the introductory law of the Grand Duchy of Baden to the Reich justice laws . After the Reich Justice Laws came into force in 1879, he was appointed director of the Mannheim Regional Court. In 1883 he received the Oak Leaves for the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Zähringer Lion Order.
In 1885 Bassermann stood again as a candidate for election to the 32nd state parliament and was confirmed as a member of parliament by the voters of the 45th electoral district I, which included the city of Mannheim. Until 1892, most recently in the 36th state parliament , he was re-elected throughout. Bassermann was promoted to President of the Mannheim Regional Court as early as 1889, succeeding Edwin Benckiser , and in 1891 he was awarded the Commander's Cross, Second Class, of the Order of Zähringer Lions.
After a long illness, Bassermann died at the age of 75 in his hometown. He was buried in the main cemetery in Mannheim . Bassermann was elected the elder of his evangelical community several times . He was also a member of the Baden Protestant General Synod .
Marriage and offspring
Anton Bassermann married Marie Eisenlohr (1832–1900) from Durlach in 1852 . They had a son Ernst Bassermann (1854–1917). Ernst Bassermann became a lawyer like his father and was a member of the Reichstag from 1893 . He became chairman of the National Liberal Party. From his marriage to Julie Bassermann (1860–1940), born Ladenburg , two daughters and one son were born.
