Anton Bayr (organ builder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anton Bayr (* 1716 in Heidingsfeld ; † 1792 (?)) Was a German organ builder in the Rococo period.

Life

Bayr was born in 1716 in Heidingsfeld near Würzburg in Lower Franconia . In the winter of 1744/45 he took over the workshop of his colleague Philipp Hillenbrand . In the same year he received the citizenship of Munich . In his working life he has more than 150 organs built, for example in Schäftlarn , in the Tegernsee Abbey , the Abbey of Neustift in Freising or Raitenhaslach .

During a restoration, the organ builder's building number 1 was identified and its history researched. This organ was completed on September 24, 1745 in the Franciscan monastery in Ellingen . After the closure of the monastery by Field Marshal Carl Philipp von Wrede in 1818 and the secularization , the organ was given to the parish church of Walting . After several renovations and modernizations, the organ fell into disrepair and was considered barely playable. That is why it was replaced by a new building in 1999. The organ finally came to the Valley Organ Center , where it was restored by Sixtus Lampl .
