Anton August Ferdinand von Glaser (born July 19, 1784 in Johannisburg in East Prussia , † June 8, 1840 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the Prussian major general Friedrich Daniel von Glaser (1740-1804) and his first wife Marie, née Rogalla von Bieberstein .

Military career

In 1797, Glaser joined the “von Suter” hussar regiment of the Prussian Army as a Junker and on September 20, 1799 was promoted to cornet . On January 21, 1802 he was transferred as a second lieutenant with a patent from December 17, 1801 in the newly established Dragoon Regiment "von Rouquette" . In 1805 Glaser was promoted to adjutant and took part in the attack on Bromberg , the Battle of Prussian Eylau and the defense of Danzig in 1806/07 during the Fourth Coalition War.

After the Treaty of Tilsit , he was transferred to the Silesian Cuirassier Regiment on November 25, 1807 as a regimental adjutant with a patent from December 17, 1801. As a prime lieutenant , Glaser was adjutant to Colonel von Roeder from December 1, 1812, and on January 13, 1813, he was promoted to the adjutant's position as staff assistant master. During the Wars of Liberation Glaser fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Leipzig , Laon and Paris . For the battle near Haynau he received the Iron Cross II. Class, near Leipzig Glaser was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class and for Laon with the Iron Cross I. Class. During that time he became a captain on November 25, 1813 and major on February 5, 1815 with a patent from February 14, 1815 . In the same year Glaser acquired the Order of St. Anna II Class near Ligny . He also took part in the Battle of Belle Alliance and the Skirmish at Nanteuil.

After the war he was adjutant at the General Command of VI from 1818 . Army Corps in Wroclaw. On March 30th, 1823 Glaser was aggregated to the 1st Cuirassier Regiment and on December 1st, 1823 commissioned with the leadership of the 11th Hussar Regiment . His appointment as regimental commander took place on September 8, 1825 and in this capacity he was promoted to colonel until March 30, 1830 . On November 21, 1830 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class excellent. Granted the character of major general, Glaser took his leave on October 14, 1834 with the statutory pension . He died on June 8, 1840 in Breslau.

General von Zieten wrote in his assessment in 1815: “In the cavalry battle on June 28th of that year at Nanteuil, Major von Glaser gave eloquent evidence of bravery, and on several occasions also demonstrated an overview and calm in the battle. He has knowledge of horses, rides boldly and well, is well acquainted with this detail of the service, has applied several times to be transferred back to the line. I believe I can say with certainty that he will bravely lead a cavalry regiment to the enemy. "

Glaser married on November 15, 1814 in Kapsdorf Amalie Helen Sophie Wilhelmine von Paczensky and Tenczin (* September 17, 1793, † June 25, 1874), a daughter of General Karl Heinrich von Paczensky and Tenczin . The couple had several children:
