The Arlesheim district is one of five districts in the Swiss canton of Basel-Landschaft . The main town is Arlesheim .

geography

The Arlesheim district is located southeast of the city of Basel and includes the lower Leimental and the lower reaches of the Birs , the so-called Birseck . With around 150,000 inhabitants, the Arlesheim district is the most populous district in the canton of Basel-Landschaft and is largely part of the agglomeration of the city of Basel .

traffic

The Arlesheim district is well connected to public transport by the BLT tram and bus network and the Jura Railway .

The connection to the A2 motorway in Muttenz is also ensured via the A18 expressway .

Political communities

At the beginning of 2009, 15 political communities belonged to the Arlesheim district, of which 8 with over 10,000 inhabitants can be regarded as cities in terms of size.
