The Arnbach is a six kilometer long tributary of the Pfinz im Enzkreis . It is being built in the Arnbach district of Neuenbürger and flows into the Pfinz from the right between the districts of Dietenhausen and Ellmendingen in the municipality of Keltern . The name Arnbach is derived from the Middle High German aherm , "maple".

geography

course

The Arnbach is being built on the northern edge of the Arnbach district of Neuenbürger directly next to the 4542 district road to Straubenhardt - Ottenhausen . Taking a north to north-easterly direction, after a few hundred meters the brook passes the border between the natural areas of the Black Forest-Randplatten and Kraichgau .

After two kilometers, which flows from the right Grafe Hauser Bach , the south of Birkenfeld - Oberhausen springs and Oberhausen and also belongs to Birkenfeld Gräfenhausen flows. North of the mouth, the Arnbach valley narrows, the slopes are planted with mixed forest, the stream is accompanied by a strip of meadow and by the 4576 district road from Graefenhausen to Keltern-Ellmendingen. In the valley lies the Am Arnbach flood retention basin with a nine meter high earth dam and a normal flood retention area of 19,100 cubic meters.

At the Grenzsägmühle , the Kettelsbach (also Kettelsbachgraben ) flow from the right and the Niebelsbach from the left. The two kilometer long Kettelsbach runs mainly in the nature reserve Essigberg , where it also rises. The approximately two kilometer long Niebelsbach rises south of the eponymous district of Keltern .

The Grenzsägmühle marks the former border between Württemberg and Baden , which crossed the Arnbach here and followed the Kettelsbach to the east. Below the Grenzsägmühle the dam and bridge of the former Pforzheimer Kleinbahn over the Arnbach have been preserved. The small railway, closed in 1968, connected Pforzheim with Ittersbach , where there was a connection to Karlsruhe .

Around 600 meters below the Grenzsägmühle, the almost five-kilometer-long Federbach flows from the right, which rises east of Dietlingen and flows through this district of Keltern. Below the mouth of the Federbach, the Arnbach turns west to northwest, taking over the direction of flow of the Federbach. It flows through the center of Ellmendingen, mostly accompanied by through streets. Around one kilometer northwest of Ellmendingen, the Arnbach flows into the Pfinz from the right within the Ellmendinger Roggenschleh nature reserve . An overview of the Ellmendinger district from the 1870s shows that the Arnbach has since been straightened in the mouth area and relocated to the north.
