history

Stone with the coats of arms of all districts

Around the year 1000, the Counts of Calw had a castle built between the villages of Schwann and Dennach , which was named after the inhospitable area of Straubenhardt (Alemannic: "struben Hardt" - rough forest). The remains of this castle ruin are now part of the municipality of Neuenbürg . The bailiff soon adopted the name of the castle. His lineage, the noble von Straubenhardt, can be traced back to the 15th century. From 1320 the castle and the surrounding area came increasingly under the rule of the House of Württemberg . The Schmalensteiners, who were related by marriage to the von Straubenhardt and also lived at the castle, therefore joined the Schleglerbund under the leadership of Wolf von Eberstein . In 1367 the Knights' Union attacked Count Eberhard II of Württemberg while he was in the Wildbad . It is not clear whether this is today's Bad Wildbad or Bad Teinach . However, the escape route suggests that it was Bad Wildbad. Eberhard was able to flee to Zavelstein Castle . In retaliation, Eberhard subsequently took Straubenhardt Castle and only released it again after Württemberg was granted the right to open Straubenhardt Castle in 1374 . Presumably there were further differences with the Count of Württemberg afterwards, so that he had the castle destroyed in 1381 . The male line of the Straubenhardt family ended in 1442 with the death of Hans von Straubenhardt. The Schöne von Straubenhardt family has appeared in the documents since the end of the 15th century . It seems to have been established that these families are not related to the former von Straubenhardts. However, it does not seem clear how the Schöne von Straubenhardt got their property in the area. Around 1598, 1599 the Schöne von Straubenhardt sold a large part of their property in the area. However, Rudmersbach Castle (in today's Ottenhausen) is still in their possession in 1623.

Today's community of Straubenhardt was created on December 1, 1973 through the merger of the old Württemberg communities of Conweiler, Feldrennach with Pfinzweiler and Schwann. On January 1, 1974, Ottenhausen, also formerly Württemberg, was incorporated by voluntary agreement and on January 1, 1975, the formerly Baden Langenalb was incorporated by the Baden-Württemberg Municipal Reform Act. With the naming and adoption of the von Straubenhardt coat of arms, the historical connection to the former knight dynasty of the noble von Straubenhardt was restored. The naming of Straubenhardt can be traced back to the original assumption that the community of Dennach, on whose territory the ruins of Straubenhardt Castle are located, will also be assigned to the new community. In the last round of the reform negotiations, however, Dennach was slammed into Neuenbürg.

Conweiler

Conweiler was founded in the High Middle Ages as a Waldhufendorf by the Lords of Straubenhardt. The first documentary mentions come from the year 1297 as "Cunnenwilre". To the north of Conweiler was the Cunnenburg, which was owned by the von Schmalenstein family. The castle and settlement were probably named after Cuno von Schmalenstein. The headquarters of the Schmalensteins was originally the Schmalenstein Castle of the same name . Gradually, however, the Cunnenburg developed into the center of their aristocratic rule. The Straubenhardt and Schmalenstein families are two different branches of the same family. The Cunnenburg Castle was destroyed in 1384 by Count Eberhard II. In 1435 Württemberg already owned seven eighths of the town, in 1446 it was able to acquire the rest from the Lords of Remchingen . The old Württemberg village of Conweiler remained with the ancestral Oberamt Neuenbürg when the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg was implemented . During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , Conweiler came to the Calw district in 1938 . In 1945 the place became part of the French occupation zone and in 1947 it was assigned to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern , which was added to the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. On January 1, 1973, Conweiler came to the Enzkreis through the district reform in Baden-Württemberg .

Feldrennach was also created as a Waldhufendorf by the Lords of Straubenhardt. The place got its name probably from the stream flowing through the place, the Rennach . Feldrennach was mentioned as Roneh and Veltrunche in 1256 and 1277 . In 1301 the brothers Ulrich, Konrad and Volmar von Bromberg waived their claims to goods at Feldrennach. In 1418 the place came to the Count of Württemberg . The old Württemberg village of Feldrennach came in 1938 from the dissolved Oberamt Neuenbürg to the district of Calw and in 1973 to the Enzkreis. Thus, Feldrennach and the district of Calw became part of the French occupation zone in 1945 and came to the state of Baden-Württemberg via Württemberg-Hohenzollern in 1952. Today the seat of the municipal administration of Straubenhardt is in the town hall on the market square in Feldrennach.

Langenalb

The founding of Langenalb as a Waldhufendorf goes back to the Lords of Straubenhardt. The village was first mentioned as Grangia et Pascua Alba in 1177 in the Maulbronn Monastery property list. The lords of Schmalenstein, who sold Langenalbe in 1382 to the Margraves Bernhard and Rudolf von Baden, had supremacy over Langenalb . After that, Langenalb was the only one of the 6 suburbs of Straubenhardt to be completely Baden. In 1560 Langenalb received its own parish. Langenalb was previously part of the church in Rudmersbach and Feldrennach. In administrative history, Langenalb was always assigned to the Baden Office of Pforzheim. After the founding of the Grand Duchy of Baden , Langenalb came to the Pforzheim District Office in 1819, to the Pforzheim District Office in 1864 and, during the Nazi era, to the Pforzheim District in 1939 . In 1945 the place became part of the American occupation zone and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. On January 1, 1973 Langenalb came to the Enzkreis through the district reform.

Ottenhausen

Ottenhausen emerged as a street village and was first mentioned in 1327 as Ottenhusen . However, as early as 1262 the place Rudmersbach was mentioned as Rutmerspach . Rudmersbach has risen in Ottenhausen and on April 1, 1909, the sub-communities officially became a unified community. From 1418 Württemberg was able to acquire shares in Ottenhausen, but it was not until 1602 before Württemberg had acquired all of the shares. The old Württemberg village of Ottenhausen came in 1938 from the dissolved Oberamt Neuenbürg to the district of Calw, which fell into the French occupation zone in 1945 and was annexed to the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952 via the state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern. 1973 came Ottenhausen through the district reform to the Enzkreis.

Pfinzweiler

The original Pfinzweiler was a district of Feldrennach. However, it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War , but repopulated in 1713.

Schwann

The "calculator" (Emil Gauss) in front of the Schwann town hall

Schwann was also founded as a Waldhufendorf. From 1400, Schwann was the residence of the Lords of Straubenhardt, their castle was behind the church. After the death of Hans von Straubenhardt, the last male descendant of the von Straubenhardt family, in 1442, Württemberg acquired half of Schwann von Straubenhardt's heirs. As a result, Schwann belonged half to Württemberg and half to Baden. On July 1, 1528, Württemberg bought further shares in exchange and in 1599 the rest. In 1605 Schwann was incorporated into the knightly canton of Neckar-Black Forest . The Württemberg village of Schwann came to the district of Calw in 1938 from the dissolved Oberamt Neuenbürg. 1973 Schwann came through the district reform to the Enzkreis.

partnership

A partnership has existed since 2000 with the French communal association ( Communauté de communes ) Canton de Pont-de-Veyle . First contacts with the association in the French Bresse in the Ain department were made in 1996. The partnership was driven by the Wilhelm-Ganzhorn-Realschule in Straubenhardt and the Collège Georges Sand in Pont-de-Veyle . On the basis of German-French partnership and friendship, the school partnership, brokered by Roger Herbet, soon developed into an official community partnership, which was established in 2000 at a joint partnership festival in Pont-de-Veyle by the mayor Willi Rutschmann (Straubenhardt with its 6 sub-locations) and Christophe Greffet (for the municipal association Canton de Pont-de-Veyle with 12 municipalities) was sealed. In 2001, this new German-French community partnership was celebrated in Straubenhardt at a meeting.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

The PT is the traffic group Pforzheim-Enz ensured (VPE). All Straubenhardt districts can be reached from the central bus station in Pforzheim-Mitte with the VPE bus lines 715 ( Ittersbach ), 716 ( Bad Herrenalb ), 717 (Langenalb / Ittersbach) and 718 (Conweiler). A long-term transport policy objective is the construction of a new light rail link from Ittersbach via the Straubenhardt districts of Conweiler and Schwann, Neuenbürg and Birkenfeld to Pforzheim. This rail connection is to be integrated into the route network of the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft and, like the Enztalbahn, operated with two-system light rail vehicles (see also Pforzheimer Kleinbahn ). A feasibility study revealed the technical implementation of the project. In a standardized assessment, however, the planned S-Bahn was denied its economic efficiency. However, the route for a future route will continue to be kept free in the land use plans of the neighboring communities.

In Straubenhardt, readers can choose between three daily newspapers : Pforzheimer Zeitung , Pforzheimer Kurier , a regional edition of the Badische Neuesten Nachrichten (BNN), which has its main editorial office in Karlsruhe , and Der Enztäler, an independent newspaper until the end of 2002, since then a regional edition of the Schwarzwälder Bote who has his main editorial office in Oberndorf am Neckar . nature

Schwanner Wait

In the valley between Conweiler and Feldrennach lies the most beautiful meadow - made famous by the poem Dasstille Tal by the judge and poet Wilhelm Ganzhorn . Ganzhorn described the landscape in the style of romantic poetry so impressively that his verses have become popular and - sung to the melody Drei Lilien - have become one of the best-known and most popular German folk songs .

A large part of the scenic and geographically interesting area of Straubenhardt can be seen from the Schwanner Warte (475 meters above sea level). The Schwanner Warte with the Black Forest Association's observation tower is a popular destination for day trippers and hikers. From the tower the view extends over the Rhine valley to the Palatinate Forest , the Odenwald and part of the Vosges . If the visibility is good, you can even see the Speyer Cathedral on the horizon , as well as the cooling towers of the Philippsburg nuclear power plant until May 2020 .
