Arnd Lauber (born October 26, 1976 in Bremen ) is a German chess player .

Arnd Lauber attended the Ecumenical High School in Bremen - Oberneuland and then completed his military service in Stuttgart with the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr. He studied mathematics at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . He had study stays in Barcelona , Paris , Puebla and Rio de Janeiro . He received his PhD in 2004 under Hartje Kriete and Manfred Denker on the topic of On the Stability of Julia Sets of Functions having Baker Domains and was then Junior Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for three years .

successes

With the team from the state of Bremen , he won the North German C youth team championship in Münster in 1991 . From 1990 to 1994 he was Bremen youth individual champion in different age groups five times in a row and in 1993 Bremen youth champion in blitz chess . In 1995 he was German youth champion U20 in Leipzig (for which he was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the State Chess Federation Bremen), at the following U20 junior world championship in Medellín in 1996 he was 19th of 58 participants. In March 2006 and February 2007 he won the Bremen Blitz Championship. At the 24th Open in Lübeck-Travemünde in December 2007, he finished first with 6.5 out of 7. He achieved a grandmaster norm in March 2008 at the 12th Neckar Open in Deizisau . He won the 15th Open in Cuxhaven in April 2008 with 8 out of 8. In June 2008 he won the Tower Open in Lippstadt with 6.5 points from 7 games and one point ahead.

With the Delmenhorster SK , for which he also acted as a youth coach, he played from the 1995/96 season until the withdrawal of the club in the 1999/2000 season in the German Federal Chess League . Since the 2008/09 season he has been playing for Schachfreunde Berlin . In his first season for Berlin, he achieved his second grandmaster norm. In the German national team he was nominated for the C-team.

Arnd Lauber has held the title of International Master since 1999 . He was able to increase his Elo rating to 2502 in July 2008, after having improved by 85 points since January 2008.

As an attractive player, Lauber usually starts with the queen's pawn (1. d4), as a Black he usually plays the Caro-Kann defense on 1. e4 . Against 1. d4 he chooses the Nimzowitsch-Indian defense or the Viennese variant in the Queen's Gambit rejected. He answers the English opening (1. c4) and 1. Nf3 with transitions into these two systems.
