Arnold Othmar Wieland (born August 1, 1940 in Lengmoos , Ritten , South Tyrol ) is a theologian and was Grand Master of the Teutonic Order from 1988 to 2000.

Life

After graduating from high school, Othmar Wieland entered the Teutonic Order on October 5, 1959, where he was given the name Arnold. After he had made his simple profession on October 6, 1960 , he began studying theology and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1966, after having made perpetual profession on December 28, 1965. In 1969 he was with a thesis on Justin at the University of Innsbruck doctorate . The province of South Tyrol belonging and also different tasks in the pastoral tätigend, he was elected on August 29, 1988. 64. Master of the Teutonic Order and was given on 30 October 1988 by the Bishop of Bolzano-Bressanone , Wilhelm Egger in Lana the Abtsbenediktion . On October 29, 1994, he was re-elected as Grand Master.

Not re-elected to the general chapter of the order in 2000, he also lost the right to use the pontificals and now stepped back from the rank of ordinary members of the order. After remaining in Vienna for a few years , he returned to his home province, where he is now again active in pastoral care. From 2003 to 2014 he was a university chaplain at the Free University of Bolzano .

Former High Master Wieland was elected Prior of the Teutonic Order Province of South Tyrol by the Provincial Chapter in summer 2014 .

Arnold Othmar Wieland has been an honorary member of the KAV Capitolina Rome in the CV since 1997 .
