from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asshole is slang for the anus . The word is mainly used as a dirty word .

etymology

The word element of ass found in all Germanic languages ( alts. , Altn. , Swed. , Ahd. , MHG. And ENHG. Ars ; Old English AERS , Modern English ass , especially in American English also ass ; Dutch aars ; Low German ors , even nors , mors ) and allows the reconstruction of the ancient Germanic noun * arsaz . It is probably related to the ancient Greek ὄρρος (órros) "tail", which was also used as a strong expression for the buttocks and was therefore avoided in sophisticated language. A possible Urindo-European noun * h₁ors- is also air. err “tail” and Hittite arraš “buttocks”.

The term hole is of Old High German origin and means opening. The combination is likely to be from the early Middle Ages , as it occurs with the same content in both English and German. In Old High German, on the other hand, the term intestine is primarily used for the anus , derm , which was later transferred to the intestine .

The finger sign for "asshole" is also used as a sign for okay

Finger sign

A finger sign for asshole is a circle made up of your thumb and forefinger. This is used, for example, as a verbal abuse among motorists and in many regions of the world (e.g. Brazil). The same sign can also be understood as ok , e.g. B. as a standardized diving symbol .

Legal issues

The dirty word "asshole" can in criminal law the offense of insult to § 185 of the Criminal Code meet. Insult is the announcement of disregard or disregard for the offended victim or third party in the will that this statement is also taken note of. The intention must be to degrade the victim and to hurt their honor . A distinction must be made here between mere abuse criticism and value judgments . Mere defamatory criticism includes, in particular, swear words such as “asshole”, “useless”, “idiot”, etc. The offender is concerned with hurting the victim's honor, defamation is in the foreground, criticism in the background. Value judgments, on the other hand, are protected by freedom of expression according to Art. 5 GG .

Anyone who calls their superiors “old asshole” in labor law may not be dismissed without notice , but may be given a warning . In tenancy law , the severe insult "You asshole" pronounced during a dispute against the landlord justifies termination without notice. The deliberate and repeated gross insult to the landlord (twice "asshole" in a row), which does not result from a momentary loss of control, justifies the termination of rental contracts without notice . In this judgment, the Cologne Regional Court did not fail to recognize that an insulting statement can be excusable if it was made out of a provocation or in connection with a contentious atmosphere and if it is to be assessed as a momentary and very isolated lack of control . In road traffic law , being insulted as an "asshole" triggers a fine of up to 1,500 euros.

In September 2017, the public prosecutor of the canton of Basel-Landschaft recognized the word Scholarch (head of school) as an insult in a case in which it was used as an anagram for asshole; he then imposed a fine of 150 francs. The author moved the case to the criminal court, which sentenced him to pay court and legal fees. Since December 2019, this question has also been clarified by the highest court; the Federal Supreme Court supported the view of the criminal court and charged 3,000 francs court costs.

Newspaper:

  • Georg Seeßlen - definition in Die Tageszeitung : “If someone accepts a big disadvantage in other people for a small advantage for himself, that is quite a mess. The smaller your own advantage in relation to the disadvantage of others, the higher the A-factor. The decent person begins where you accept a small disadvantage for yourself in exchange for a greater advantage for others. However, if you accept a major disadvantage in favor of a small advantage of others, you are either keen on a halo or have a small problem with the "helper syndrome". And gets into asshole danger again. "
