Asjat Mansurowitsch Saitow
Asjat Mansurowitsch Saitow ( Russian Асят Мансурович Саитов ; born January 1, 1965 in Kuibyshev ) is a former Soviet and Russian cyclist . He is vice world champion in the team time trial and two-time stage winner of the Vuelta a España .
Life
As an amateur Saitow was Soviet champion twice, in 1987 in the individual time trial and in 1988 in the team time trial . At the world championships in 1987 he was runner-up in the team time trial with the Soviet four-man team . Saitow often competed in races in Western Europe and won one of the most traditional Italian races for amateurs with Milan-Mendrisio in 1987.
In 1990 Saitow became a professional athlete with the San-Marinese cycling team Alfa Lum , for which he won a stage Vuelta a España in 1990 . From 1991 to 1995 he drove for the Spanish team Kelme . During this time he became the Russian road champion in 1992 and 1995 and won the overall rankings of the stage races Vuelta a Castilla y León (1992) and Volta ao Alentejo (1995). He repeated his stage win in 1990 at the Vuelta a España in 1995 . Saitow ended his career as an actover after the 1996 season with the Italian team Ceramiche Refin-Mobilvetta .
Asjat is married to Svetlana Masterkowa .
