Assassin's Creed Origins is an action-adventure - video game , which by Ubisoft Montreal developed by Ubisoft is laid. It is the tenth part of the main series of Assassin's Creed and the successor to the 2015 Assassin's Creed Syndicate . It was released worldwide on October 27, 2017 for Microsoft Windows , Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms .
The plot is set in historical fiction with actual historical facts and represents a prequel for the series. It takes up the origins of the power struggle between the Assassins fighting for peace through freedom and the Templars , who see peace only through a hierarchical system , on. The action takes place in Ptolemaic Egypt and follows Bayek, who as Medjai tries to protect his compatriots. The open game world allows the player to explore ancient Egypt on foot, on horseback or camel, with chariots or boats. The game is played from a third person perspective . Like Syndicate , Origins does not come with a multiplayer mode .
Game principle and technology
In Assassin's Creed Origins is an action-adventure title with stealth elements , played from the third-person perspective . The game has received some changes in gameplay compared to its predecessors in the series. Players can complete quests after they are unlocked through interactions to advance through the story. Outside of these quests, players can freely explore the open game world on foot, on horseback or camel and with smaller boats. In order to unlock areas on the map, you don't have to climb vantage points like in previous games in the series. In addition, the combat system was completely rebuilt. In Assassin's Creed Origins , battles at sea are fought in 3 missions, which will differ significantly from those of the previous games, and grave robbery also plays a role again.

development
Development work on Assassin's Creed Origins began in spring 2014 after the completion of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag . Information about the still young game, which at the time still seemed to have the working title Assassin's Creed Empire , was first leaked in January 2017. The published screenshots showed a character in front of a cave entrance, however the image was allegedly taken at a very early stage of production. In a leak in May 2017, from someone who had seen the gameplay demo for E3 in advance, a character on a boat in front of a city could be seen in the photo of the screen that was photographed. According to this person, Assassin's Creed Origins was developed in the AnvilNext game engine , which was redesigned especially for this game. The game was officially launched on June 11, 2017. The music for the video game was composed by Sarah Schachner, who previously worked on the titles Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Unity .

The hidden ones
The Hidden is a story-driven expansion that sheds more light on the rise of the Assassin Brotherhood. Set four years after the events of the main game, it takes the player to the Sinai Peninsula , where he must investigate a clash between a rebel faction and Roman occupiers. In addition to the new story chapter, The Hidden Ones introduces a variety of new items that the player can purchase, including an outfit, a few mounts, two legendary weapon sets, and other weapons. In addition, the maximum level is increased to 45. The Hidden Ones was released on January 23, 2018.
The curse of the pharaohs
The second expansion includes a new quest in Thebes that deals with an ancient curse that plagues the land. Curse of the Pharaohs focuses on Egyptian mythology as the player must fight famous pharaohs and Egyptian beasts, uncover the cause of a curse that brings some dead rulers back to life. In addition to a new region, the expansion also contains various other worlds that the player can enter in the course of the story. Like the first expansion, The Curse of the Pharaohs offers the player new outfits, equipment and weapons that revolve around the ancient Egyptian mythology and increases the maximum level to 55. The Curse of the Pharaohs was published on March 13, 2018.

Arena horde mode
The arena horde mode takes place in the gladiatorial arena of Cyrene, where the player can fight against endless waves of enemies. The longer the player survives, the heavier the waves become as the opponents become stronger, more numerous and more diverse. The player has the option of using traps built into the arena against opponents or has to avoid them.
Discovery tour mode
The Discovery Tour mode is a special mode in the game that gives the player the opportunity to explore the Egyptian world and learn more about its history. This is made possible by tours that are accompanied by historians and Egyptologists . In this mode, the focus is solely on exploration. The Discovery Tour mode can either be used via the main game or can be purchased separately.
The historical correctness of the discovery tour mode was ensured through the collaboration of the developers with archaeologists, universities and museums such as the British Museum .
Animus control panel
The Animus Control Panel offers players 11 categories with 75 parameters that can be customized. The parameters can make the game much easier or more difficult. Among other things, the life points and the damage of the opponent or the player can be changed. It is possible for players to share their own customizations with other players. The Control Panel also offers three presets.
- Hardcore Sneak: Play the game like real assassins. It's easy to be spotted, but if you're successful, you can kill any enemy with just one hit.
- God mode: play the game like master. Unleash supernatural powers in battle against your opponents.
- Crazy World: Try to survive in this aggressive environment. Stay away from sandstorms!

Assassin's Creed Origins received mostly positive reviews. The Metacritic review database aggregates 29 reviews to a mean of 84 (Windows), 81 (PS4) and 85 (Xbox One). Peter Bathge of PC Games described the action adventure as a radical reorientation of the series, which offers "excellent, very extensive AAA entertainment with a solo focus" and thus "proudly alongside such popular games as Horizon Zero Dawn and The Witcher 3 "stand.
The game received nominations in the categories “Best of Show”, “Best Console Game” and “Best Action / Adventure Game” at E3 2017 . At Gamescom 2017 it received the award in the category “Best Console Game Sony PlayStation 4”. In 2018 it was awarded the German Computer Game Prize in the “Best International Game” category.
According to Damals magazine , the Discovery Tour mode represents a successful transition from entertainment product to interactive learning tool. An example is the Pointe-à-Callière Museum of Archeology and Urban History in Montréal, Canada, which is part of its 2018 exhibition on the queens Egypt's images and video sequences from the tour of discovery of Assassin's Creed Origins are used.
