On the sharpness is 477.2  m above sea level. NHN the highest mountain in the sand forest , a mountain range in the East Hessian mountainous region . It is located near Eichenberg  Dorf in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse . There is a transmission mast made of steel framework on the mountain .

On the sharpness rises about 3.3 km west-southwest of the border triangle Hesse-Lower Saxony-Thuringia directly west-southwest of Eichenberg  Dorf, a district of the municipality of Neu-Eichenberg . To the north-northeast of the wooded mountain lies Berge , south-south-west Unterrieden and south-west Witzenhausen .

The Werra tributary Karlsbach rises on the north-eastern flank of the mountain and the small Bessientalsbach , which feeds the Karlsbach a little further south-east, rises on its southern flank . Other small springs arise in the western mountain area.

Parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Werra and Wehretal are located on the mountain (FFH no. 4825-302; 244.8191  km² ).

Natural allocation

On the sharpness belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35) and in the main unit Lower Werrabergland (358) to the subunit sand forest (358.9). To the south-east the landscape falls into the sub-unit Neuseesen-Werleshäuser heights (358.8) and to the south-west into the sub-unit Witzenhausen – Hedemündener Werra valley (358.4). To the north it leads into the natural area of Dransfeld plateaus (371.15), which is part of the main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (37) and the main unit Solling foreland (371) to the subunit southern Solling foreland (371.1), and to the east in the Natural area Eichenberg-Hohenganderner slopes and Keuperhügel (372.70), which in the main unit Leine-Ilme-Senke (372) belongs to the subunit Oberer Leinegraben (372.7).

Transport links

South-southeast and southeast of On the edge runs between Unterrieden and Castle Arnstein a common portion of the federal highways 27 and 80 and also is located east-northeast at Eichenberg station at the railway station Eichenberg of railway -Knotenpunkt the Halle-Kassel line and the Bebra-Göttingen railway . If you branch off from the B 27, you can take the district road  68 ( Eichenberg – Eichenberg train station ) to the eastern flank of the mountain in the Eichenberg village, which can be climbed on forest and hiking trails.
