  • Luxembourg : The city is occupied by the German army in the morning according to the Schlieffen plan .
  • German Empire / France : The first day of mobilization is in both countries. According to the plans of the Schlieffen Plan, seven of the eight German armies are marching in the west (two armies defensive, five in the offensive swing wing). You are initially facing five French armies.
  • German Empire / Belgium : At 8 p.m. Belgium was asked in an ultimatum to submit a declaration within twelve hours stating that the Belgian army would be passive when German troops march through, which the next morning, on August 3, was rejected becomes.
  • German Empire / Ottoman Empire : The two countries form a secret alliance. The Ottomans hope that their expansion goals, which were directed to the Caucasus and Central Asia, will be realized.
  • German Empire : Citing military sources, several separate papers report that French planes dropped bombs on Nuremberg without a French declaration of war being made beforehand. The report later turns out to be newspaper duck ; it is mentioned in the declaration of war on France the following day .
  • United Kingdom : In two meetings, the British cabinet under Prime Minister Asquith decides that the Royal Navy will protect the French coast in the event of a German attack (meeting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and that if Belgian neutrality is violated (meeting from 18 : 30 a.m. to 8 p.m.).
