August Julius Brunsig Edler von Brun (born June 25, 1824 in Trier , † January 21, 1905 in Gumbinnen ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the later Prussian general of the infantry Georg Brunsig von Brun (1789-1858) and his wife Henriette August Karoline, née Riemann (1798-1833). The future general of the infantry Arthur Brunsich von Brun (1845-1938) was his younger brother.

Military career

Brun first attended high schools in Breslau and Gdansk . On January 19, 1844, he joined the 5th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army in Danzig as a musketeer . There he was promoted to second lieutenant until April 1847 and was adjutant of the 1st battalion from October 1853 to September 1859 . In the same capacity, Brun then worked in the 3rd Infantry Brigade , rose to Prime Lieutenant in mid-April of the same year and resigned on December 13, 1860 as captain and chief of the 3rd Company to his main regiment. Brun led his company in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battles near Trautenau , Tobitschau and Königgrätz . On June 18, 1869 he was transferred to the 2nd Brandenburg Grenadier Regiment No. 12 . There Brun rose to Major and commander of the First Battalion, which he in 1870/71 during the war against France in the battles of Spichern , Vionville , Gravelotte , Beaune-la-Rolande , Orléans and Le Mans and in the siege of Metz led .

Honored with both classes of the Iron Cross , Brun became lieutenant colonel in July 1875 and after his promotion to colonel on November 28, 1879 commander of the Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 in Dessau . His achievements in troop leadership were recognized by the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class and the Commander's Cross, 1st Class of the House Order of Albrecht the Bear . Due to illness, Brun submitted his departure and was put up for disposition on March 13, 1884 with the character of major general and the statutory pension . On the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Le Mans, Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves.

He was a knight of honor of the Order of St. John .

family

Brun had married Anna Karoline Baum (1837–1887) on September 18, 1858 in Danzig. The daughters Marie (* 1863) and Frieda (* 1866) emerged from the marriage.
