August Traugott Samuel Scheppe (born January 23, 1792 in Rothkirch , Liegnitz district , † August 8, 1856 in Glogau ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade .

August was the son of the bailiff of goods Rothkirch and Größnitz Johann Ernst Samuel Scheppe and his wife Juliane Eleonore, born Jacob.

Military career

Scheppe attended high school in Legnica , then studied agriculture and then worked as an economist . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he enlisted in the Prussian Army and came on March 25, 1813 as a volunteer hunter in the 6th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment. There Scheppe advanced to secondary lieutenant in mid-June 1813 , took part in the siege of Mainz and the fighting near Löwenberg, the Katzbach , near Wartenburg , Leipzig , Laon , La Ferté-Gaucher and Paris . For Goldberg he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.

After the war, Scheppe was promoted to Prime Lieutenant as adjutant to the salaried trunk of the 1st Battalion in the 6th Silesian Landwehr Regiment in mid-April 1816 . From mid-March 1820, this was followed by a use in the 2nd Battalion in the 10th Landwehr Regiment. After he was promoted to captain in this position on December 15, 1828 , Scheppe was able to excel in fighting a major fire in Oels at the beginning of 1834 and received the Red Eagle Order IV class for this. He was aggregated to the 10th Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1834 and transferred to the 36th Infantry Regiment as a company commander on August 12, 1835 . On March 30, 1839, Scheppe became major and commander of the 1st battalion in the 30th Landwehr Regiment in Trier . At the same time he acted from mid-August 1841 to the end of March 1846 as director of the divisional school and president of the examination commission for porters in the 16th division . Scheppe then worked in the 23rd Infantry Regiment , before he was appointed commander of the 16th Infantry Regiment in Düsseldorf on February 17, 1849 and promoted to lieutenant colonel in early May . In the same month Scheppe led his association in the bloody suppression of the revolutionary unrest in the city. On October 10, 1850 he was then commander of the 23rd Infantry Regiment in Neisse and on January 18, 1851 was promoted to colonel . At the end of April 1852 Scheppe received the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern II. Class and in mid-June 1852 the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. On May 23, 1854 he was appointed commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade in Glogau. In this capacity he was placed on June 14, 1854 à la suite of the 23rd Infantry Regiment and promoted to major general on July 13, 1854. Scheppe died on duty on August 8, 1856 in Glogau and was buried three days later in the garrison cemetery.

Scheppe married on July 19, 1819 in Oels Wilhelmine Tempelhoff (1898–1865), a daughter of the Prussian Secret Chief Excise and Customs Councilor Johann Tempelhoff. She was buried on August 29, 1865 in Warmbrunn.
