August Eduard Freiherr von der Goltz (born September 25, 1802 in Königsberg , † September 24, 1873 in Bonn ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Ferdinand was a son of the Prussian major Ferdinand Friedrich von der Goltz (1773-1813) and his wife Eleonore Charlotte Elisabeth, née von Szenska (1772-1856). His father was a knight of the order Pour le Mérite . He was seriously wounded in the battle of the Katzbach and died of the consequences in Jauer . His sister Blanka Katharina Franziska Eleonore (1799–1883) was married to his uncle, Major General Alexander Wilhelm von der Goltz . His brother Ferdinand Friedrich Magnus August was also a Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Goltz visited the Berlin cadet house and was aggregated on September 30, 1819 as a second lieutenant of the Guard Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army, and on April 21, 1821. For further training he was assigned to the General War School in 1823/26. As an aggregated Premier Lieutenant , he was adjutant of the 3rd Artillery Inspection from the beginning of February 1832 . Left in this position, Goltz rose to captain at the beginning of May 1839 and on June 5, 1841 became adjutant of the General Inspectorate of the Artillery . In mid-November 1843 he was transferred to the adjutantage. On March 31, 1846 Goltz became a major and a member of the study commission of the artillery and engineering school as well as a member of the examination commission for artillery and engineering lieutenants. On January 24, 1847 he was awarded the Order of St. John and in mid-June 1846 was appointed a member of the Military Study Commission. During the campaign against Denmark , Goltz was commanded to accompany Prince Adalbert . Retaining his position as adjutant to the General Inspectorate, he was appointed personal aide to the prince on April 2, 1850. In mid-September 1852 he was employed as commander of the cavalry division of the Guards Artillery Regiment. In this position Goltz was awarded the Lieutenant Colonel on March 22, 1853 and on May 6, 1853 with the Officer's Cross of the Belgian Order of Leopold . On June 6, 1854 Goltz was promoted to commander of the 4th Artillery Regiment and in this position in mid-July 1854 to colonel .

On the occasion of King Wilhelm I's coronation celebrations , he was promoted to lieutenant general on October 18, 1861. On April 3, 1862, he was appointed inspector of the 1st Artillery Inspection. Under awarding of Rioten Eagle Order , First Class with oak leaves Goltz was on September 9, 1865 board for disposition made. He died in Bonn on September 24, 1873.

He married Emily Mildred Barclay (1807-1893) in Düsseldorf on August 29, 1839. The son Eduard August Rüdiger (* / † 1843) emerged from the marriage. The pair subsequently adopted Maryanna Emily Charlotte Clementine Epping (* 1836), which on 29 April 1861 as Baroness von der Goltz ennobled was.
