Aurelio Cardinal Sabattani (born October 18, 1912 in Casal Fiumanese , Province of Bologna , Italy , † April 19, 2003 in the Vatican ) was prelate of the Loreto Territorial Prelature and later Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Aurelio Sabattani studied in Imola , Bologna and Rome trays Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 26 July 1935, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then entered the service of the Vatican State Secretariat , where he carried out various tasks until 1955. In addition, he taught at the seminary in Imola and was in the local bishopric adviser to the Christian teacher and judge of the diocesan court . In 1955 he became an auditor at the court of the Roman Rota and served as a pastor for the Catholic Association of Physicists .

On June 24, 1965, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of justiniana prima and prelates of the territorial prelate of Loreto and the Pontifical Envoy at the Sanctuary of Loreto . He was ordained bishop on July 25th of the same year by Cardinal Secretary of State Amleto Giovanni Cicognani , Cardinal Bishop of Frascati ; Co- consecrators were the archbishop of the Curia, Francesco Carpino, and the bishop of Imola , Benigno Carrara . In 1971 Aurelio Sabattani became secretary, in 1982 Pro-Prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature and Pro-President of the Vatican Court of Appeal. On February 2, 1983, Pope John Paul II accepted him as a cardinal deacon with the titled deaconry Sant'Apollinare alle Terme Neroniane-Alessandrine in the college of cardinals and appointed him cardinal prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature and president of the cathedral builder of St. Peter . Cardinal Sabattani resigned the leadership of the Apostolic Signature on July 1, 1988, and the leadership of the Dombauhütte on July 1, 1991 for reasons of age. In 1990, he moved as a service now an elder in his cardinal class to cardinal deacon until he on 5 July 1993 while maintaining its titular church of Cardinal Priest pro hac vice was appointed.

Aurelio Sabattani died on April 19, 2003 in the Vatican and was buried in his family's crypt in Riolo Terme .
