The FC Unirea Valahorum Urziceni was a Romanian football club from the city of Urziceni . He played in the Romanian League 1 from 2006 to 2011 and was Romanian champion in 2009, runner-up in 2010 and participant in the group stage of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League . The association was dissolved in 2011.

history

The first football club in Urziceni was a club called "Ialomița". This team initially played against clubs from Ploieşti , Buzău and Slobozia . The team also played against Germans resident there frequently.

The club made its first notable appearance in 1988 when the team made it into the round of 16 of the Romanian Cup. In the 1988/89 season Unirea reached second place in the third Romanian league, but could not win in the playoff against Dunărea Călărași . In 2002 the club was finally taken over by the new main sponsor "Valahorum", who restructured the club. After only six months, the new sponsor decided to expand the stadium to 7,000 seats. Just one year after the arrival of the new sponsor, the team rose to the 2nd division; in the 2005/06 season followed by promotion to the first division. This enabled Valahorum to turn a club that had spent almost 50 years in amateur leagues into a Romanian first division club within four years. On September 26, 2006, Unirea took Dan Petrescu as the successor to the dismissed Costel Orac under contract.

In the 2007/08 season Urziceni reached fifth place in the first Romanian football league and qualified for the UEFA Cup . In their first game at international level, the team drew 0-0 at Hamburger SV . Due to a 2-0 home defeat in the second leg, Unirea missed the group stage.

Since September 2008 the club had a new main sponsor, Alexandros Motors . In the 2008/09 season he celebrated his greatest success by winning the Romanian championship. This was linked to direct qualification for the group stage of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League . There Unirea met VfB Stuttgart , FC Sevilla and Glasgow Rangers . Despite two wins (at home against Sevilla and away in Glasgow) it was only enough for third place, which meant qualifying for the round of 32 of the Europa League , in which the team was eliminated by Liverpool . On December 29, 2009 Dan Petrescu resigned as a coach and was replaced by the Israeli Ronny Levy , who signed a contract on December 31, 2009 for a year and a half. In mid-August 2010, however, the club separated from Levy and after a three-week bridging period under Gabriel Caramarin , Octavian Grigore , the previous coach of third division Chimia Brazi , was presented as his successor on September 8, 2010 .

In order to reduce personnel costs, the club patron Dumitru Bucşaru sold most of the top performers in autumn 2010 and replaced them with players on loan from Bucharest second division clubs. With these, the runner-up of the 2009/10 season slipped to the penultimate place in the league 1 by the end of the first half of the 2010/11 season , whereupon coach Grigore was dismissed. In December 2010, Bucşaru agreed with the local authorities from Chiajna to move the club from Urziceni. Unirea was reinforced by 13 players from CS Concordia Chiajna and played its home games under the new coach Marian Pană in the second half of the 2010/11 season in Chiajna. The home games of the then domestic second division team were again moved to the Berceni stadium , whose home club, third division ACS Berceni, took over the remaining players from Concordia Chiajna and played its home games in Roșu , the previous home of fourth division Concordia II Chiajna. Since club renaming is not allowed in the course of a season, the clubs kept their old names until summer 2011.

After the Romanian Football Association had already banned the planned merger with Chiajna in February 2011, Unirea was not registered for any championship in the 2011/2012 season and the club was dissolved in summer 2011.

The club was re-established in summer 2015 and starts in the 5th Romanian League (Liga V) and plays its home games in the Stadionul Comunal in Gârbovi.
