Ausserbraz (also: Auserbraz , 704  m above sea level ) is a district of the municipality of Bludenz in Vorarlberg ( Austria ). The place is about 5 km as the crow flies from the city limits of Bludenz and borders directly on the municipality of Innerbraz , whereby the Mühlebach and the Mühletobel (also: Frattobel) form part of the natural municipality boundary. Like the Bludenz districts of Bings and Radin , Ausserbraz belongs to the Klostertal and not like the city of Bludenz to the Walgau .

The name Braz comes from the Latin “prates” - meadow. For historical reasons, Ausserbraz is often referred to together with the municipality of Innerbraz as "Braz", although in some cases "Braz" is only used for the municipality of Innerbraz.

The head of the village is Sonja Niedermesser.

history

Auserbraz came to Bludenz from the Sonnenberg rulership in 1695.

The place became known nationwide on June 16, 2010 due to a train accident in which ten of the 16 railway wagons of a 548-meter-long and 770-ton passenger car transport train derailed. ( Arlbergbahn between the Hintergasse parcel and Braz) A brake defect (damage to a brake hose that hung too low and hit the rail heads) at Hintergasse station (Innerbraz) significantly reduced the train's braking ability on the steep incline. The freight train derailed at the Brazer Schlinge (also: Brazer Bogen) at 125 km / h. It was built on the railway infrastructure and the transport material ( Dacia - cars of several million euros damage to property in the amount). Parts of the train, including the locomotive, came to a stop just a few meters in front of a residential building.

church

Ausserbraz has been part of the Catholic parish of the Bludenz community since the 1880s . Since then, however, Ausserbraz has belonged to the parish of the independent community of Innerbraz (see also: List of parishes in the Bludenz-Sonnenberg dean's office ).

The path chapel Ausserbraz hl. Anna was consecrated in 1640 and is a north-facing rectangular building with a gable roof and turret.

A section of the Jakobsweg Landeck – Einsiedeln , which leads through Vorarlberg, the Klostertal and the Walgau , runs via Innerbraz - Ausserbraz - Oberradin - St. Leonhard to Bludenz.

traffic

Ausserbraz has its own ÖBB train station ("Braz") on the Arlberg railway line . It is currently (2017) no longer used in tourist traffic. The main road that leads directly through the village is the state road L97 (Klostertalerstraße). The regional bus route 90 also runs there . Ausserbraz can be reached from the S16 ( Arlberg Schnellstraße ) via its own exit.

sport and freetime

A golf course is available in Ausserbraz. Numerous hiking trails lead to the surrounding mountains of the Klostertal (the Roggelskopf is the "local mountain" of the Braz region and is 2284  m above sea level ). There is an outdoor swimming pool in Innerbraz and a cross-country ski run in winter .
