St. Leonhard ( 663 m above sea level ) is a small group in Vorarlberg between the district of Bings and Oberradin in the Klostertal and belongs to the municipality of Bludenz ( district of Bludenz ) and is located about three kilometers from the city limits of Bludenz.
St. Leonhard today has six residential buildings and other farm buildings with 16 residents. In 1787 there were also six houses with 28 inhabitants in this parcel.
Surname
The name St. Leonhard is derived from the church there, dedicated to St. Leonhard . Saint Leonhard is considered among other things as the patron saint of carters and horses (animals) and as a helper in need ( fourteen emergency helpers ).
history
St. Leonhard originally had the name: "Sankt Leonhard auf der Radin" (see: Radin ).
The St. Leonhard estate was first mentioned in a document in 1467. The city council of Bludenz awarded the estate as inheritance on May 7, 1467 to Ulrich and Elsa Lenz for an annual fee of 2.5 pounds pfennigs .
chapel
In St. Leonhard, directly on the old Klostertalerstraße on the "Glasbühel", the listed chapel St. Leonhard ( list entry ) from the year 1390. The chapel is a rectangular building with a 5/8 choir, saddle roof , barrel vault and pointed arched windows with slug panes . A two-story sacristy was added on the north side in 1670. The western main entrance is protected by a glazed porch .
During the last renovation of the chapel in 1990, characters were uncovered on the east side that have not yet been identified. Presumably these are house signs of the wagoners who stopped at the church.
The parish fair is on the first Sunday in August, the patronage festival on St. Leonhard's day on November 6th every year. Efforts to elevate the church to parish church in 1780 were unsuccessful.
altar
The altar is said to have been built before 1500. It has a baroque structure around 1670 | 80. In the middle there is a statue of Our Lady on a globe, stepping on the snake and carrying the baby Jesus . On the right is a statue of Saint Barbara (with a chalice), on the left of the altar is a statue of Saint Leonhard.
Above the altar there is a unicorn coat of arms of the city of Bludenz on the right and the red-white-red shield of Austria on the left .
Way of St. James
A section of the Jakobsweg Landeck – Einsiedeln , which leads through Vorarlberg, the Klostertal and the Walgau , runs via Innerbraz - Ausserbraz - Oberradin - St. Leonhard to Bludenz.
graveyard
There used to be a cemetery around the chapel, especially for the deceased from the infirmary. This cemetery is no longer preserved today.
Hostel and infirmary
Directly opposite the chapel is a former hostel from the 16th or 17th century, which was also used as an infirmary. The sick were brought to St. Leonhard from the surrounding area, especially the city of Bludenz.
Location and traffic
Today St. Leonhard is slightly off the main traffic routes. The only street St. Leonhard leads through the Rotte, between the church and the former infirmary. Until 1824, this road was the main route through the Klostertal between the Arlberg Pass and Bludenz (further into the Walgau and Rhine Valley). In 1824 the main road (Klostertalerstraße L97) was relocated around 100 m to the south. The route of the Arlbergbahn runs about 180 m below the church and the Arlberg expressway S16 (E60) 200 m below it .
Above the settlement there is an abandoned quarry.
