history

The place name is assigned to the Ostfälische for small fountain and is possibly a carryover from Groß Börnicke (place at the small fountain) near Staßfurt , since Börnicke is said to have been founded by settlers from the Harz foreland as a typical anger village . Börnicke was mentioned for the first time in 1355. However, its settlement history goes back to the Bronze Age , which was determined by the discovery of an urn burial site from the Early Iron Age. But the Slavs also left signs of their settlement efforts around Börnicke.

One of the oldest buildings in Börnicke is the Börnicke village church , a late Gothic brick building with a characteristic blind gable, the tower of which is an extension from the beginning of the 18th century. There are legends and stories about Börnicke, his bell and witches in Börnicke. In 2013 the woodworm-infested church was wrapped in a (black-red-gold) foil and fumigated.

In 1933, the Börnicke concentration camp was set up in a cement factory in Börnicke . SA Standard 224 was responsible for the camp and also supervised the sub-camp in Meißnershof . The first 15 inmates were admitted on May 17. Between 150 and 500 political prisoners were tortured here until it was closed on July 26, 1933, at least ten were murdered, and others died as a result of the imprisonment. 79 prisoners were transferred to Oranienburg. The camp consisted of a main building, a prisoner barrack and another barrack, which was set up as an SA school. The prisoners slept on straw and had to pay 1.50 marks a day for room and board. Even after the early concentration camp was dissolved, the camp continued to operate as an external command of the Oranienburg concentration camp. Since 1975 a memorial stone on the site of the former factory on the road to Tietzow has been commemorating the victims of this part of Börnick's history.
