history

August Stüler 1863
church

Lietzow was first mentioned in documents in 1317, but the first human settlements in the region are estimated to be older. Lytzowe was still called the place in 1335, as early as 1442 the spelling of the place with Liezowe was similar to its current name. The place name is assigned to Slavic origin. The history of the typical Brandenburg street village has no spectacular events with one exception.

A student of the famous Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781–1841), Friedrich August Stüler (1800–1865), must have got lost in Lietzow. In 1860, Stüler planned the neo-Gothic village church, a brick structure that has largely been preserved to this day, and supervised the construction. The church is not only an architectural feast for the eyes, but also an important architectural testimony. After all, an important part of the church was made of the then still new and ultra-modern building material concrete and are a testimony to the new architectural, creative and structural possibilities of the building material and young innovative builders. When considering the importance of the builder, one should note that the first plant for the production of the cement binder in Germany was only built in Ulm in 1838 and for Portland cement in Buxtehude in 1850 . In addition to the church, the interior furnishings such as the pulpit , altar , baptismal font and choir stalls from the time it was built have been preserved.
