history

Church of the mountains

Berge was first mentioned in a document in 1292. In 1375, Berge was mentioned as the property of those von Bredow , who in 1440 sold the mountains to Otto II von Hake auf Buchow-Karpzow and Geltow († after 1441). With Otto II von Hake, the almost three centuries of possession of Berg began by the von Hake family, whose red line (the Berge House) he founded. This line received the inheritance gift office of the Kurmark Brandenburg in 1616 and expired in 1801 with Carl Botho Gottfried von Hacke (1733-1801) on Groß Kreutz .

King Friedrich Wilhelm I bought the Berge estate in 1720 and created the new Amt Nauen with an official seat in Berge, hence the name Amt Nauen in / zu Berge. It was a small office with four villages and two outbuildings that was dissolved in 1872.

In July 1760, a lightning strike in a farmhouse caused a major fire, which almost completely destroyed mountains. The church still standing today, built in 1744 as a flat-roofed plastered building on the foundation walls of the old fortified church, as well as the sexton's house and the windmill , remained undamaged by Berge. In 1776, the retracted tower with a tail roof and lantern was added to the village church . The gallery and the patronage box also date from the construction period. The pulpit altar from 1685 was taken from the old church. On the outside of the church tower you can find several tombstones of the von Hake family from the period between 1604 and 1631.

Relief by Agnes Sophie von Brose

In 1970 two mummies were found in the cellar vault / crypt of the church tower, which are said to come from the 17th century. A precise identification of the mummies has not been successful until today, a scientific anthropological investigation after the discovery of the mummies was stopped after six years due to lack of money. There are many conjectures about the identity of the mummies. One mummy is said to be a Knight von Hake from the 15th century and the other mummy is said to be the human remains of Agnes Sophie von Brose (* approx. 1593; † approx. 1621). However, these two mummies are not supposed to be the only ones, under the altar there are other "Hidden Treasures in the Church Crypt".

The Berger mummies can be viewed by prior arrangement with the pastor or the parish council. A possible mummy tour should be combined with a tour of the church with the stone carved image of Agnes Sophie von Brose on the church wall and her treasures inside, such as the pulpit altar donated in 1685 and a bronze chandelier from 1649. In addition to the pulpit altar from the 18th century, a second altar with numerous carvings can be seen on the inner north wall of the church. This altar comes from the Tietzow Church and was erected there before it was demolished.

The organ front of the church dates from 1815 by Tobias Thurley. The actual organ was built by Alexander Schuke in 1938. A special feature are the cymbal stars on the left and right of the prospectus.

In 1992 Berge merged with 13 other municipalities to form an administrative community, the Amt Nauen-Land .
